Lectures from Hell XV: Human Sacrifice

The demonic influence revealed is shocking. This short parody was inspired by the wonderful work of C.S. Lewis in his entertaining and enlightening epistolary novel, The Screwtape Letters, written in 1942. My dear gentledevils, The hallmark of demonic influence in any culture is human sacrifice to some pagan god. I am happy to inform you that the society that considers itself the most humane and civilized culture on earth, the West, now regularly practices infant sacrifice: Abortion. It pleases Our Father Below very much. The irony is that they teach about the Aztecs’ barbaric human sacrificial practices in schools, although we are working hard toward removing such knowledge from textbooks. And yet, they practice child sacrifice on a scale that dwarfs anything the most demonic cultures in history could accomplish. Today I will teach you the secret of this success. A few centuries ago, we were able to inspire intellectuals to invent a new kind of pagan god: materialism. Unlike other gods, this one was purely an idea, an abstract being that only inhabits consciousness.

The Worship of Materialism

Materialism is the insane idea that only matter exists and that consciousness is an illusion. Humans who are willing to hold such a nonsensical notion in their minds are primed to believe anything. And importantly to our cause: Those who deny consciousness become less aware of demonic influence. If you are so lucky to get a materialist patient, your work is already half-done. Like any pagan god, materialism needs a sacrifice. Ultimately, we want the humans to give up their souls because that gives them a straight path to Our Father Below. Materialism demands that they trade their spiritual well-being for material goods. Centuries of experimentation have taught us that the human female is the nexus of civilization. She is the carrier of culture, and if we can corrupt her, everything unravels. Therefore, we primed our influencers to teach women to give up their most sacred heritage that nourishes their spirits: having children. We taught them that they should seek careers and money instead so that they could bathe in material goods. Who needs noisy children when you can have fancy dresses and a villa? It still wasn’t good enough for us. We needed them also to make a blood sacrifice to their pagan god. Only then can we genuinely unleash the demonic forces to allow them to leave their humanity behind. I am delighted to tell you that we found a way! By calling it “abortion,” we can lure women into performing the Aztecs’ barbaric practices. It’s so clean and clinical, performed by a respectable doctor with fancy titles, so it feels civilized. Still, it doesn’t change the fact that they are sacrificing their own children’s blood on the altar of materialism. The effect is profound. It tars their souls and spreads great darkness across the land. I tell you this because you are soon about to go out to practice the art of demonic ventriloquism in your first student assignments in the epicenter of demonology: the university. There I want you to focus on the young women primarily. You should prime them for careers and, if possible, make them feel proud of having an abortion. If you can corrupt humans this early in their lives, they rarely recover. You will be assigned an undergraduate devil as your assistant, and next week we will review your demonic debut!
