President Donald Trump could become the first commander-in-chief to champion, implement, and lead on the issue of artificial intelligence. Over the past year, dating back to the 2024 election, Trump has emphasized the importance of the United States being the world’s AI leader, whether the country wants to or not. To usher in the Made in America AI era, the White House unveiled an “action plan” that aims to ensure US dominance in this field.
The AI ‘Action Plan’
The Trump administration unveiled a 28-page AI Action Plan on July 23. This is a blueprint containing 90 measures for "near-term execution" by the federal government to rapidly develop and implement technology that experts say is the fourth industrial revolution. Here is a breakdown of some of the paper’s measures:
Remove red tape and onerous regulations.
Advance AI infrastructure and systems.
Export American AI to allies and trading partners.
Train a skilled workforce equipped to handle AI.
Ensure AI protects free speech and American values.
Michael Kratsios, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy director, asserted the urgency of making President Trump's "vision a reality." White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks says the United States is in a race that will present "profound ramifications for both the economy and for national security."
