Ever since allegations of widespread and rampant fraud in Minnesota made the headlines, a great many people – well, on the political right, at least – have been wondering what would be done about it and when. On the morning of April 28, those questions were answered.
Twenty-two Minnesota businesses, most of them owned or managed by members of the state’s large Somali community, were raided by federal agents. "Today the FBI with federal, state and local law enforcement is involved in court-authorized law enforcement activity as part of an ongoing fraud investigation," a spokesperson for the Department of Justice told Fox News.
The raided businesses were supposed childcare facilities, including the Quality Learning Center, widely ridiculed on social media after its “Quality Learing Center” sign went viral.
Minnesota Daycares Targeted by FBI
The alleged misappropriation of public funds runs potentially into the billions of dollars. Mainly childcare facilities, but also health clinics, mostly run by Somalis, are suspected of being totally bogus operations.
Minnesota Democrats are under the spotlight, either for their possible involvement or their lack of competence in allowing such widespread fraud on their watch. Among them are Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the state’s attorney general, Keith Ellison, and Rep. Ilhan Omar, herself a Somali.
After federal agents mounted their operation, Walz posted on the X social media platform, attempting, it seems, to take the credit for this long-awaited sweep. “Today’s raids by state and federal law enforcement happened because our state agencies caught irregular behavior and reported it,” the governor wrote. “That’s how the system is supposed to work, and our agencies will keep at it as long as there are fraudsters around to put behind bars.”
FBI Director Kash Patel was quick to call out Walz. Quoting the former vice presidential candidate’s post, Patel wrote, “Come again? This FBI and DOJ with our DHS partners drafted and executed every search warrant today. But go ahead and take credit for our work while we smoke out the fraud plaguing Minnesota under your governorship.”
Not a New Problem
However, it appears these sham businesses have been sucking up public money for years, with little to no action being taken by any Minnesota state government agencies. When state officials did attempt to take action back in 2019 and 2020, they were pressured by leaders of the nonprofit Feeding Our Future to turn a blind eye. This is what “multiple former employees at the Minnesota Department of Education” told a CBS News investigation.
Rep. Omar, who apparently saw a staggering increase in net worth over just the past couple of years – but now denies that she is wealthy – is believed to be associated with Feeding Our Future. That organization received almost $250 million in federal funds by claiming to have provided 91 million meals to children, according to federal prosecutors – who say the money was used to fund “lavish lifestyles.”
The moral of the story is that “woke” culture, championed by progressives, has become, in some cases, a veil used to conceal nefarious activities. In Minnesota, state officials were often afraid to dig too deeply into the finances of Feeding Our Future and other mostly Somali-run “businesses” for fear of being accused of racial profiling.
Apparently, the retooled and repurposed FBI in the era of President Donald Trump and under Patel’s directorship is not looking around for pearls to clutch, should it face similar accusations.
