Leftists High Tailing it out of High Tax States

Americans living in highly taxed and regulated states are cashing it all in to head towards greener pastures – and they’re taking their political capital with them.  According to the United States Census Bureau, an electoral power shift may emerge after the completion of the 2020 census and the outlook for top leftist run states is grim.

Using net domestic migration data compiled in the annual report, “Rich States, Poor States,” published by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) January 2019, it is clear that states reducing tax and regulatory burdens are winning the migration war.  Conversely, those enjoying a quagmire of leftist failed economic policies are beginning to feel the pain of the exodus. [perfectpullquote align=”right” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=”24″]That doesn’t bode well for power grabbing in the Swamp. [/perfectpullquote]

In 2018, citizens of New York and Illinois skittered and scattered in every direction, with 48,510 and 45,116 folks respectively relocating to better climes — and not necessarily for the weather – as top locales gaining blue state refugees include Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.

That doesn’t bode well for power grabbing in the Swamp.

The Outlook

Since the 1930 Census, the number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives has been capped at 435 — which equates to one voting member for every 747,000 or so Americans.  And that is why every decade or so, interest peaks in determining which states are nearing the magic bubble, either just gaining their last seat, or perhaps losing a district.

The most recent 2018 numbers show a swap of congressional seats — a gain in Arizona with a loss in Rhode Island.  But forecasting 2020 numbers is where changes in the balance of power may occur.  Election Data Services apportionment statistics show at least 13 states’ congressional districts will be altered upon completion of the upcoming census.

Several states are poised to increase legislative power. Texas will add three new seats, for a total of 39, and Florida is set to gain two seats, going from 27 to 29.  Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, and Oregon will pick up one seat apiece.

The big loser in the electoral shift is New York, with two congressional seats lost. Alabama, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Minnesota, and Rhode Island will all lose one each.  It appears California will remain stagnant.

Warning Label

As blue state refugees continue to seek asylum in economically healthy, prosperous red states, resulting in added legislative power, another factor must be considered: The true costs of allowing the big government, higher taxes foxes into the proverbial conservative chicken coop.  That is a balance of power that must not swing into the Democrats’ hands.

As Liberty Nation’s Graham Noble rightly and eloquently advises:

“For those fleeing the Northeast and California to settle in other states… leave your old habits behind, and, most of all, leave behind the stupid values which made the places you are leaving so unbearable to begin with. Those of us who are already here in the places to which you are fleeing do not have to accommodate you or your way of life; it is you who must conform to our values.”

The policies of liberal government have always and will continue to fail — and the evidence is glaring, as lifelong residents of California, New York and their leftist ilk are forced to find opportunities elsewhere.  Simply put, government cannot tax and regulate it’s citizens into prosperity.

Red state Americans, keep your eyes open as the shift of power begins to infiltrate wealthy and prosperous conservative states.  And keep ears tuned for the rattling of closeted sabers.
