How Do Democrats Dare Demand Unity Now?

Has Joe Biden forgotten the entirety of last four years, or does he simply hope you have?

The votes aren’t all counted, no states have certified, the legal challenges are still outstanding, and the Electoral College has yet to vote. Yet Joe Biden has been declared president-elect by his own party and much of the media. To hear them tell the story, it’s all over but the crying. Democracy has worked, the people have spoken, and it’s time to accept the results and move on. In a very presidential appeal to both sides, “President-elect Joe Biden,” as even Fox News is now calling him, said that it’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric and lower the temperature so we can stop treating our fellow Americans as enemies.

Four Years of Rage

Since the day he was elected, Donald Trump faced non-stop attempts to remove him from office. Hyperbole? Not at all. Liberty Nation’s Tim Donner summed it up nicely when explaining the Ukraine phone call scandal. He wrote:

“Impeach him before he even takes office. Or for firing Comey. Or for Russia collusion. Or for the emoluments clause. Or for him for being 25th Amendment-style crazy.  We can impeach him over his tax returns, or Stormy Daniels. Or let’s impeach Brett Kavanaugh – remember that one from last week?

And now, let’s impeach Trump over a pleasant phone call with a friendly foreign leader, which included, among several other topics, an inquiry about the widely reported corruption of the last vice president who now wants to be president.”

Not a single moment has passed since Citizen Trump became President Trump in which someone wasn’t plotting to prematurely end – or at the very least, obstruct – his presidency. There have been marches and protests, as well. The left has been so engulfed in their rage and hate that there was even an organized event on the first anniversary of Trump’s election to allow the most hopeless of his opposers to scream at the sky.

Not Just Trump

Remember Maxine Waters, the Democrat Representative from California’s 43rd district? Also often referred to in conservative circles as Mad Maxine, she’s the elected representative who called for Trump supporters to be harassed and driven out of public areas. “When you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them! And you tell them that they are not welcome, anymore, anywhere,” Waters declared back in 2018. And she wasn’t the only one issuing that call to arms. Back in 2017, HuffPost declared:

“Starting today and from here on, no elected official ― certainly those in the GOP defending and supporting Trump on a variety of issues, for example ― should be able to sit down for a nice, quiet lunch or dinner in a Washington, DC eatery or even in their own homes. They should be hounded by protesters everywhere, especially in public ― in restaurants, in shopping centers, in their districts, and yes, on the public property outside their homes and apartments, in Washington and back in their home states.”

And guess what – the mob heard and obeyed.

Not only were Trump Administration officials harassed out of public areas – exactly as Rep. Waters demanded – but random people were targeted simply for wearing MAGA hats. LN’s Jeff Charles wrote about a couple of teens attacked by a 30-year-old man back in the summer of 2018. In another instance, a man was ripped from his vehicle and beaten – on camera – for allegedly being a Trump supporter.

For the last four years, our nation has been a hellscape of insults and threats at best and physical violence at worst for anyone who dares declare support for the Donald.

It Ain’t Changing Now

If you think that a Biden win in 2020 meant conservatives could relax, you’re dead wrong. Joe Biden may be asking for unity, but many of his compatriots are not. As Mr. Charles explained recently:

“Now that they believe the presidential election has been decided, anti-Trumpers are going full Stalin. Not content to have seemingly won the race and defeated their foe, they have resolved to go scorched earth on anything and everything Donald Trump. The Marxist crowd returns to its roots, compiling a list of enemies – those who backed the president – ostensibly to hold them ‘accountable’ for the unpardonable offense of supporting a politician.”

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) kicked off her celebration of Biden’s presumed win by tweeting, “Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future.”

And she isn’t alone. The Trump Accountability Project is an online creation of Biden supporters who, according to The Washington Times, plan to establish a Twitter presence to “block jobs for, and shame, anyone who worked to elect Mr. Trump, staffed his government or funded his campaign.”

“You can’t heal or reform the GOP who are now an extremist party,” said Wajahat Ali, a contributing writer for The New York Times. “They have to be broken, burned down and rebuilt. When Biden is in power treat them like the active threats to democracy they are. If those who committed crimes aren’t punished then they will be more emboldened.”

How Dare They?

Where was Joe Biden’s call for acceptance of the facts and national unity when Donald Trump faced a tumultuous election aftermath? Lest it seem we’re picking on old Joe, let’s be clear that he’s not alone in his selective amnesia. In Texas, the Lubbock County Democratic Party is calling for unity and healing as well – though even in this message Party Chair Gracie Gomez couldn’t resist a few jabs at President Trump.

Jake Tapper

“It’s time for us to come together, and it’s time to heal this country,” Gomez said. “We are all Americans, and that is what seems to have been forgotten. The hate rhetoric didn’t work. The intimidation tactics didn’t work. The lies didn’t work.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper was, perhaps, the most outrageous. After spending the last four years denying the duly elected president’s right to execute his duties and attacking him at every opportunity, Tapper now believes in acceptance. “I truly sympathize with those dealing with loss – it’s not easy – but at a certain point one has to think not only about what’s best for the nation (peaceful transfer of power) but how any future employers might see your character defined during adversity,” declared our hypocrite of the year.

Ultimately, whether Biden has won or not, it comes down to one question: After four years of the Democratic Party and the complicit media trying to remove or at least obstruct President Trump, after heaping insult upon insult – and often threats and physical violence – on anyone who dared support the president, how can any Democrat or left-wing media personality dare to expect anything but four years of their own medicine? Why would they ever think they deserve anything less?
