Now that they believe the presidential election has been decided, anti-Trumpers are going full Stalin. Not content to have seemingly won the race and defeated their foe, they have resolved to go scorched earth on anything and everything Donald Trump. The Marxist crowd returns to its roots, compiling a list of enemies – those who backed the president – ostensibly to hold them “accountable” for the unpardonable offense of supporting a politician.
Anti-Trumpers Launch ‘Trump Accountability Project’
Only 48 hours after Election Day, failed presidential candidate Evan McMullin, who ran in the 2016 race, suggested creating a list targeting individuals who promoted Trump’s call to investigate possible voter fraud. “We should keep and publish a list of everyone who assists Trump’s frivolous and dangerous attacks on the election. Name and shame forever,” he demanded.
But McMullin wasn’t the only one who favored this idea. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) seconded his motion with her own tweet: “Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future.”
Other supporters of former Vice President Joe Biden had the same idea and have even begun taking action, setting up a website called The Trump Accountability Project. According to the Washington Times, “the ‘Trump Accountability Project’ set up a Twitter account and says it will block jobs for, and shame, anyone who worked to elect Mr. Trump, staffed his government or funded his campaign.”
The group’s website states that it is targeting people who worked with the administration to ensure that they are not able to earn any more money because of their role in pushing the president’s agenda. It says:
“But those who took a paycheck from the Trump Administration should not profit from their efforts to tear our democracy apart. The world should never forget those who, when faced with a decision, chose to put their money, their time, and their reputations behind separating children from their families, encouraging racism and anti-Semitism, and negligently causing the unnecessary loss of life and economic devastation from our country’s failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud?
The suggestion that progressives should make lists of conservatives who supported Trump is nothing new; others of similar political stripe have taken comparable actions in the past. But it appears that the possible election result has emboldened high-profile leftists to unleash their more authoritarian impulses. It seems that if Trump does not occupy the Oval Office any longer, these people are free to take aim at Americans who worked in his administration or on his campaign.
It is not hard to imagine how this proposal could quickly morph into something much worse. Progressives will not be satisfied with just harassing members of Trump’s team. Indeed, this may only whet their appetite – they will hunger for more. The next logical step could be to go after the rank-and-file Trump voter.
To be clear, Biden is not encouraging this behavior, nor would he be the one to carry out the endeavor. It is the far left that seeks to follow in the footsteps of its political grandfather, Joseph Stalin, who also made enemies lists.
While modern progressives will not go so far as to execute any of those on their “enemy of the people” list, the nation has already seen that these activists have no qualms about ruining the lives of those who dare to disagree with them politically. One only has to remember what they and their allies in the establishment media did to the Covington kids.
Freedom-loving Americans cannot count on the corporate press to expose this troubling idea; indeed, if Jake Tapper’s recent statement about how “any future employers might see your [Trump-supporters’] character defined during adversity,” it is more likely to be complicit in pushing this activity. It is hoped that a majority of Americans would balk at such a Stalinist proposition.
