Hillary Clinton is the one thing that most Democrats desperately want to go away. She’s the never-ending nightmare that triggers flashbacks of the harrowing memories of how she managed to lose an election that she was all but guaranteed to win. She’s mired in controversy, changes her position on issues like the wind, and has made so many controversial comments that members of the mainstream media have even turned on her.
As Liberty Nation’s Leesa K. Donner eloquently notes in a detailed piece, there’s a “Hillary, Please Go Away” syndrome that has infected many on both sides of the political aisle. Some liberals have even gone as far as to literally write columns begging Clinton to “go away” and not come back. Despite this, it appears Clinton is gearing up for a third presidential run.
Here Comes Hillary
In an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal, former Clinton pollster and adviser Mark Penn co-authored a piece arguing that Clinton has been laying the groundwork for a titanic-sized return to the political scene.
Penn and Andrew Stein, a former Democratic Manhattan borough president, wrote that Clinton 4.0 is about to be unleashed as a “progressive firebrand” who will “fight this out until the last dog dies.”
It certainly appears that Clinton remains incredibly bitter and is preparing to go scorched earth to avenge her humiliating defeat to President Donald Trump in the 2016 election.
“Get ready for Hillary Clinton 4.0. More than 30 years in the making, this new version of Mrs. Clinton, when she runs for president in 2020, will come full circle – back to the universal-health-care-promoting progressive firebrand of 1994,” the authors wrote.
The piece goes on to argue that rising stars in the Democratic Party “revealed themselves to be bungling amateurs in the Brett Kavanaugh nomination fight, with their laughable Spartacus moments.”
“She will trounce them,” they wrote, adding that, get this, Clinton is the Trump of her party. “Just as Mr. Trump cleared the field, Mrs. Clinton will take down rising Democratic stars like bowling pins.”
It’s easy to roll your eyes and remember that the last time the Clintons occupied the White House, they stole hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of furniture when they left in the early 2000s. But Clinton has recently made some interesting comments about giving it a third try.
When asked last month if she will run for president again, Clinton replied “no,” but then pivoted to saying “Well, I’d like to be president” while donning a bizarre smirk on her face. Clinton then fired off some of her accomplishments, which ironically make the perfect case for why she should never be president.
“I feel very well-prepared for having been in the Senate for eight years, having been a diplomat in the State Department,” Clinton said, leaving out so many crucial details about her self-described stellar record.
Clinton’s Record is Stellar – If You Ask Her
Clinton believes her decades-long career proves she’s qualified. While she may have experience, her career has largely been mired in controversy. Aside from head-scratching comments such as rejecting calls for civility, many of the same issues that tanked her presidential run in 2016 will undoubtedly arise again in 2020.
Clinton has come under fire for defending former President Bill Clinton’s criminal justice policies in the 1990s that some argue unfairly, and perhaps illegally, targeted African-Americans. She also referred to black people as “super predators,” which remains a major issue of contention.
When she was secretary of state, Clinton was front and center during the Benghazi terror attack, which remains one of the biggest blunders of the Obama presidency. In Sept. 2012, United States Ambassador Christopher Stevens, State Department employee Sean Smith and CIA contractors Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were killed during the terrorist attack. Several other brave men and women were forced to fight and fend for themselves for more than 13 hours until help was finally sent.
And who could forget about her emails? While she deleted more than 33,000 emails – many of which contained classified information – Clinton couldn’t get rid of the fact that she violated State Department procedures on numerous levels. Her actions were so egregious and detrimental to America’s national security that former FBI Director James Comey revealed that hostile foreign actors accessed her server, which was hidden in the basement of her mansion in upstate New York.
Clinton’s Flip-Flop Problem
There’s also the issue of Clinton being more driven by favorable headlines and press clippings than principles and ideals.
She was once against same-sex marriage; now she supports it. She previously supported a barrier along the southern border to combat illegal aliens from crossing into the United States; now she rejects Trump’s idea of a border wall.
She voted for and supported the Iraq war in 2002, then claimed during the 2016 election she was against it. She supported NAFTA and TPP and then opposed it on the campaign trail to counter Trump’s calls to rip up the deals and renegotiate them.
In 2014, Clinton said, “We have to send a clear message that just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean your child gets to stay.” In February 2016, she walked back that comment and said: “The children themselves need to be taken care of. They are children. They should be given every help that we can.”
While it appears most want Clinton to exit the stage to the left, history tells us that Hillary will always do what Hillary wants. And there’s seemingly nothing anyone can do to convince her that third time’s a charm will be nothing more than a catchphrase for her if she gives it another go.
