Harris Tours Parkland to Stump for Gun Control Six Years Later

No doubt there will be protesters.

Vice President Kamala Harris is in Florida today, March 23, to meet with the survivors, educators, community leaders, and parents of children slain in the mass shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018. The tragic event was a catalyst for a student protest movement to tighten existing gun laws, including deeper background checks and wait times to purchase firearms.

In a symbolic gesture, the school is set to be demolished, and the Vice President, tapped recently to lead up the brand new 2024 Office of Gun Violence Prevention, is going to do a walk-through with parents before access is completely denied. Harris will be guided down the same path the shooter took through the school and shown how he blended with students to escape.

The assailant, 19-year-old former MSD student Nikolas Cruz, was responsible for the murder of 14 students and three adults. He was convicted and condemned to serve 34 consecutive life sentences without parole on Nov. 22, 2022.

The student group, Never Again MSD, almost immediately charged into action. Armed with petitions and passion and fueled by sadness and anger, the 20 founding teens traveled by bus across America to speak about gun violence, lobby for gun control, and wound up registering over 50,000 new voters in 30 states.

How Will Harris Wriggle Out of This One

Since becoming the second in command, Harris has been given many projects to help enhance her White House street creds, but she has fallen short on most. Border Czar: laughable. Get Out the Vote: another failure. Harris has done alright when appearing at green energy events and demanding abortion rights, but now she’s running with scissors on gun control.

She hasn’t encountered this new generation, which relies heavily on TikTok for news, seemingly has no work ethic at all, and who have conversations that conclude with “yeah, no.” They don’t care much about anything else but what matters to them – not you—and they aren’t flexible and gullible enough to vote for false promise-keepers.

The group March for Our Lives grew out of the MSD tragedy and was active during the second half of former President Trump’s term, though they were all but quiet in the corporate media coverage since the new president was sworn into office. But the organization is back and has changed focus, now showing up in the Swamp to protest at Biden’s latest State of the Union along with a coalition of organizations fueled by young progressive activists: Sunrise Movement, GenZ for Change, and United We Dream.

This electorate is charged up and is not shy about sending missives to the White House demanding someone pay attention, as when they arrived to protest the State of the Union:

“We watched as your government waived dozens of environmental laws to enable construction at the border wall, and now we watch in horror as innocent Palestinians are killed by bombs our government funded and provided.”

So, they’ve expanded a bit with a laundry list that will bite Biden and Harris in the backside. The positional rollbacks on immigration, lack of passing meaningful legislation on climate change and green energy, and the fact that cows aren’t on the FBI’s Most Wanted list aren’t making the youngest voters happy. And this is exactly what happens when people pay attention: No one stays satisfied with the government.

According to a Tufts University poll late last year, 57% of the under-29 crowd say they will definitely vote, and they are mostly concerned with climate, guns, and mental health. How will Biden and Harris screw that up? By doing what they have done for three years – Spin Cycle through legacy media.

The protest letter mentioned above tells of watching the watchers:

“Without the engagement of young people in 2022, there would have been a Red Wave. You say you want to ‘finish the job.’  In addition to calling for a lasting ceasefire, we’ve laid out the key policies on the top of young voters’ minds. If you commit to prioritizing these actions, young people will turn out and make ‘finishing the job’ a reality. To invest in America, invest in us.”

That’s a tough request for a VP who hasn’t finished any of her assigned projects to this point.
