President Donald Trump had a busy week – and so heartlanders found themselves engaged in plenty of argumentative dialogue mixed in with the normal congenial conversation. What rattled the rural folks was the reassignment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to less controversial public pastures with fewer opportunities and less budget to annoy number 47. Noem, for the first time, went quietly. Also, on tips of tongues from Shreveport to Kenosha and from farmers and ranchers in South Dakota to the fine folks of Kansas was why in tarnation white liberals would have their noses out of joint with America’s action in Iran.
Honorable mentions this week go to attendees of the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s funeral, which turned out to be not only a political rally, but a comedic improv event, as well.
A Disturbing Tale of Two Ideologies
The Family Protection Laws of 1967 and 1975 in Iran raised the marriage age to 18 for girls. The late coming but well-received laws also prohibited polygamy and gave women more rights in areas of divorce and child custody. The university system was packed with women seeking higher degrees and dressing much like their counterparts on American campuses. Those folks of a certain age recall – except, apparently, for the white liberal “Karens” who dominate the Democratic Party today.
Before 1979, women in Iran served as judges, lawyers, and elected members of parliament. In the past 45 years, women have worn Hijabs and Burkas, been forced into marriage, and suffered horrific physical beatings, mutilations, and death by the regime. Trump eliminated the head of the snake, and the rest coiled up and started hissing in the den.
Well, women around the globe have ripped off the burka uniform and are celebrating in the streets. As they proudly wave the Lion and Sun Flag, dance, cry, feel the relief of freedom again, and thank the US, the white liberals of America in blue cities saw red and have taken to the streets as well – though for starkly different reasons.
Brad Lyons of Ohio assumed: “Of course they are.... It’s the monthly gathering for the Flag of the Month club!”
A note to those who use TDS to feel good about themselves: Check your privilege. Protesting the undoing of the Iranian regime means the Karens forgot that such expressions of opinion aren’t afforded to everyone in the world. Protests dubbed Woman, Life, Freedom popped up in Iran back in 2022. Anyone plugged in would remember that at least 551 people – including 68 minors – were killed for it, according to the organization Iran Human Rights.
Wrong side of history, progressives. And Davers Johnston had to have a say: “Is it the people who were just dressed up as Handmaids last week?”
Trump Swipes Left
Kristi Noem went into her position at DHS with controversy and somehow now leaves with more. Shooting her own dog for killing a chicken set people on edge – including a lot of conservatives. But now, a disastrous ICE debacle in Minnesota, an alleged affair, and a 60-second ad campaign that cost more than the average Hollywood feature film brought about her demotion. How did Noem spend over $220 million on an ad campaign?
The congressional hearing caught the ear of Todd Rishell, in Hell, MI: “I liked her but am curious of the multi-million-dollar ad campaign.”
Johnie Christ, in Houston, TX, had a say too: “I like Kristi Noem and think she did a great job, but she made a mistake and then said Trump approved it. She had to go.”
Noem will still report directly to Trump in her new role, and a lot of people – like Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) – will be happy she is not making the news on a daily basis.
Tillis posted about Noem’s replacement, Markwayne Mullin, saying he’s “a great guy and a great choice to lead DHS.” And he reminded folks that Noem shot her misbehaving puppy: “Another big positive: he likes dogs.”
Go Peacefully? Nah, Send in the Clowns
Rev. Jesse Jackson was laid to rest this past week, and as you might have expected of a gathering of Democratic Party operatives, it was not necessarily peaceful. Jesse Jackson Jr. asked for political remarks to be left out of the memorial service. “Do not bring your politics to my father’s services.” That’s akin to telling a hungry lion not to eat a chunk of meat. Or, as Don Lee countered from Houston, MO: “That’s like saying don’t bring fried chicken to a picnic.”
And who invited former President Barack Obama? Jackson was caught on a hot mic chastising the Unity King about how he talked down to black folks. Well, he was there along with Kamala Harris, the Clintons, and Joe Biden. They sent in the clowns, it seems. Then they let Joe and Kamala speak – and that’s rarely a good idea.
The former president went in to fix his reputation for being dim. “Now, if I told you all earlier, when I was a kid, I had a cleft palate or club foot, none of you would have laughed, but it’s okay to laugh at stuttering,” Biden said. “It’s the one place where people think you’re stupid. Oh, really? I’m hell of a lot smarter than most of you.” Good grief.
In Glendale, AZ, Thomas Bodine, after some thought, stated: “And most of the people in the crowd agreed.”
Then it was Kamala’s turn to wow the crowd. Somewhere between her seat and the podium, she lost the use of the letter “G.”
“I’m not into sayin’ I told you so, but we did see it comin'.”
John Schweikert, in Utica, IL, weighed in: “Kamala didn’t understand the assignment, but she thought she had the accent down.”
