The heartland is not the best place to get into a political discussion on whether the US should or should not have made a move after being threatened by Middle Eastern thugs. It just gets very quiet after the folks who say "blow them up" are followed by the silence of no one disagreeing with them. But rest assured, there was still plenty to talk about. Before the joint operation with Israel against Iran, this week was defined by too much coverage on hockey and the State of the Union.
Iran So Far Away
The Iranian media reacted much as it always does. It put out a photo of a building that was allegedly a school, insisting: “Dozens Of School Girls Killed In US Strike.” No one, from sea to shining sea, bought it. In Lexington, SC, on the heels of another President Donald Trump energy rally, Darryl Hammond piped up: “Alex I’ll take ‘stuff that didn’t happen’ for $1 meelion dohlaars.”
James Drake in Michigan also had his doubts on the lovely building: “Learing Center of Iran.”
Let’s remember that Iran has been on a good run of oppression. The people protested the iron fist of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but as The Clash sang in "Rock the Casbah," “Fundamentally, he can't take it.” Maybe now Trump has Iran on the path to a better way.
Who Is This John Fetterman Person?
Granted, when John Fetterman first came upon the scene, America saw a crumpled-up guy fighting for a comeback from a series of strokes and struggling to keep up. The Democratic Party and Mr. Fetterman’s wife kept pushing him to keep at it, and eventually, he did win his bid for US Senate. Well, the GOP is glad he did, and the Democratic Party – perhaps not so much.
The man who has emerged is what the heartland calls a “real guy.” He’s in sweats and shorts when getting to the nitty gritty of the issues, but can rock the suit when the occasion demands one. Since regaining his strength, his speech, and his independence, Fetterman has supported Israel. The good senator has joined with Trump on securing the border, rejected calls to defund ICE, and will hear his president out before making voting decisions.
In Rifle, CO, Alan Aden showed John some heartland love and respect: “Fetterman, I like you more and more. We may not agree on everything, nor do we have to, but you seem to genuinely care about this country and have its best interests at heart. Once both parties can see each other that way, the argument becomes the best path to getting there instead of pulling the same rope in two very different directions.”
The Clintons Under Oath
Heartlanders of a certain age are skeptical at best that Hillary or Bill Clinton will tell the truth. Most are still ascertaining the definition of “is” and how to use it correctly in a sentence. So, the American people on one side of the political divide wait to see if anything that is documented has the hint of truth. Mr. Clinton began his testimony with a sob story of growing up in an abusive home – and his wife began by denying she was ever around billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Mr. Clinton also testified: "I know what I saw and more importantly, what I didn't see. I know what I did and more importantly, what I didn't do. I saw nothing and I did nothing wrong." He earned that nickname, Slick Willie, for many reasons. In Macon, GA, Mike Brooks considered commenting but then thought better: “I'm not saying, I'll end up missing.”
