Bill Clinton’s Un-apology Tour

by | Jun 7, 2018 | Narrated News, Politics

William Jefferson Clinton, our 42nd president, is flirting with the news again as he hits the road on a book tour for co-authoring a thriller with James Patterson.  Unfortunately, the tome titled The President is Missing is a work of fiction and not an autobiographical story of the Clinton family.

Bill Clinton with Monica Lewinski

But the Clinton loving media has more on their minds than the latest from Patterson; they want to know why the former president has not issued an apology to the one and only Monica Lewinsky, the intern with whom he had an affair while in office, in the Oval Office – the eternal vestiges of his otherwise unremarkable presidency.

#MeToo

Clinton and Patterson appeared together on NBC’s The Today Show when host Craig Melvin had the audacity to ask the president if given the current climate of #MeToo would he have handled the uncovered affair differently.   And the affable Clinton became quite testy as he attempted to recover from the shock of the past rearing its ugly maw. “Nobody believes that I got out of that for free.  I left the White House with $16 million in debt.”

Nothing like an international foundation to pad your personal bank accounts.

As Patterson sat, visibly peeved at the interview derailment, Melvin pressed on asking whether or not Clinton ever apologized to Miss Lewinsky.  To that he replied, “I apologized to everybody in the world,” and continued to sing like a crazy canary, bringing up the Constitution, women he hired, and how much he appreciates some parts of the #MeToo movement, although he didn’t specify which parts.  Finally, after admitting that he has not apologized to Monica nor did he feel it necessary to do so, Patterson said “stop already” and wandered off the reservation with Clinton.  Oops.

Social media pounced like ravenous lions feasting on the slowest Gazelle on the Veldt.  Dennis Miller tweeted:

“As a member of “the world” I don’t accept Bill Clinton’s apology. I’m giving it back in hopes he gives it to her because she’s the only one who deserves it. #DennisMillerOption

And Monica Lewinsky added this immediately after the interview with links to her Vanity Fair article about her relationship with Clinton:

“grateful to the myriad people who have helped me evolve + gain perspective in the past 20 years. worth reposting this today from @VanityFair …”

But we are talking about the Clintons here, darlings of the elite leftist media, so of course, Stephen Colbert granted weird Uncle Bill, with sidekick Patterson, a chance at redemption with an invite to The Late Show – after appropriate down time to have his press people craft more appropriate remarks.

Colbert began with a leftist outpouring of love for the duo, but snaked his way around to asking Clinton about his non-apology answer. “Do you want a do-over to that question?”

The late-night pundit went out of his way to lead Clinton to an answer that would satisfy #MeToo proponents, but Clinton regressed to lawyer double speak reminiscent of his most famous quote, “That depends on what the definition of is, is.” He deflected magnificently, calling the final product of the Melvin interview “distilled,” which is code for editing to make him appear poorly.   And he dodged the question as a slick politician is apt to do.

Bill Clinton will never pay for his crimes or apologize to Monica Lewinsky for his predatory role that upended her young life.  His plaintive explanation of those woeful times in debt after leaving the presidency are a slap in the face to every woman in America who has been victimized by men in power.  He leaves behind damaged women in his wake, the very same women that the #MeToo movement should embrace, but sadly, will not.

So, no, Mr. Clinton, “the world” does not accept your apology.
