Picking on college students for legally exercising their second amendment right is a thing now. A teaching assistant at the University of Utah did not care for the right to bear arms and marked off a 3x3 square box in her classroom so that any student who dares to carry a concealed firearm can be humiliated by standing in it during class.
In 2006, the university started allowing students to carry a concealed weapon on campus if they are a valid permit holder, due to new legislation. The decision did not go down well with leftist professors and aides, but state law allowed guns on the campus, and there was nothing they could do to stop it.
Classroom Discrimination
The unnamed graduate assistant teacher handed out a syllabus on the first day that detailed why she was implementing the policy, stating that a student who possesses a concealed firearm in class is “absurd, anti-social and frightening.” There was no explanation for how a weapon that is covered up by a piece of clothing and unseen causes fear for one’s “psychological and personal safety.”
The assistant was reassigned, but is still with the university – but is that enough? She was violating state law based on a political belief. Tertiary institutions are meant to be places where young adults learn who they are on their own, not forced into following the staff’s politics.
A discrimination policy violation was prevented due to her transfer, but if it were not, she would have been directly violating Utah state law. Whether a professor agrees with legislation or not, state law trumps school policy much like federal law overrules a state law in court. In this case, the Utah Supreme Court upheld legislation allowing guns on campus.
Education or Indoctrination?
Many universities and colleges in the United States have become havens for leftist indoctrination. Utah is an extremely conservative state, but left-wing professors have a habit of shaming students who do not agree with them one hundred percent, and this student teacher is no different.
The left hates the very founding of this country, even though they enjoy American freedom, liberty, and opportunity as much as everyone else. The Founding Fathers stated that there are specific God-given rights afforded to us. Most college professors set out on a daily mission to stop those rights; if carrying a firearm in class is allowed, the next step for them is to harass and caricature others who do have one.
Harassment and shaming of college students by professors are nothing new. Intolerance toward right-wing students has been a problem in academe for decades. The left has taken over the system and been able to mold thought, instead of allowing students to come to their own decisions.
Leftists will not stop attempting to stifle legal gun owners by pretending firearm carriers are insane, unstable, power grabbing, or shameful. Never be ashamed of your Constitutional rights. They are the only authentic rights that exist.
