Twitter and the New York Post are in a no-holds-barred battle over the presidential election and pulling out all the stops in their collective arsenals. Last week the Post broke with a revealing piece on one candidate’s murky relationship with Ukraine. Twitter responded immediately by censoring the article on its platform, preventing people from posting and sharing said exposé.
Now, the conservative-leaning newspaper has countered with a public lashing of Twitter’s top employees for their unabashed hatred of the president and his supporters and for their seemingly random crimes against the American way in general. After scouring the posts of the Twitter team, the Post pulled together a revealing tell-all trolling of hate and bias from the people running the social media platform.
Not that critical-thinking Americans hadn’t already figured out that Twitter promoted Joe Biden and kept conservative support for President Trump curtailed but, still, seeing the written words is downright nauseating.
Have You Met The Twitter Inmates?
Well, there’s this guy, Yoel Roth, head of site integrity for the platform. He seems like a good guy: has a stocked liquor cabinet, stable home life, a cool dog, and he communicates well with those who love those biased Twitter rules. But Roth has slammed the president as a “racist tangerine” and the White House staff as “Nazis.” Although he has seemingly slowed his roll of nasty personal comments – due to increased news coverage perhaps – we know where he stands.
And according to the recent Post article, Roth is only one of a dozen or so folks in charge of creating and enforcing the rules that let their hate hang out in the most inappropriate of ways:
- Gotta love a gal who boasts: “every night my dog takes a crap on the lawn of the one house on our street with a Trump sign.”
- An engineering manager said Trump should “die in a fire” and toasted the New Year saying, “Happy 2018! Donald Trump is dead!”
- Another guy hoped the president would “be utterly humiliated while also suffering greatly from #COVID19.” He had delusions of seeing the president on a respirator.
- One senior staff engineer queried why big-box media hadn’t investigated Melania Trump’s “possible stint as a sex worker.”
The list goes on and on. For any Trump supporters still out there, well, Twitter is not your friend. Another employee nine years on the job spoke eloquently about Trump voters as “hysterically f–king stupid people.” Obviously, the man was a tad hysterical himself.
Not only are Twitter employees a seemingly hateful group of people, but they also are openly campaigning and encouraging others to vote for the Biden/Harris ticket. And Twitter has no qualms about such activities. As a statement from the site’s Chief Human Resources Officer Jennifer Christie to the Post reflects:
“We do not hire based on political beliefs and completely support our employees’ right to express themselves and support the causes they care about. Our employees are professionals, and we require them to bring objectivity to their work regardless of their personal views. We will not be dissuaded from continuing to work to fairly and impartially enforce our rules.”
The Battle Will Rage
Will Twitter counter or allow the latest Post news to be spread around social media? It’s anyone’s guess as the prize of a presidency is up for grabs. If Twitter is banking on Trump supporters not peeking into every nook and cranny to sort the Biden/Burisma connection out for themselves, that would be foolish. Once again, the silent, non-violent majority – parading about the country celebrating the president in boats, pickups, RVs, on motorcycles, and on horses – has been dramatically underestimated.
