In a sane world there would be no need for anybody to conduct a poll asking voters whether they are concerned about socialist candidates running for public office because, in such world, the percentage of people who say they are concerned would be 100. Still, the most recent poll published on this issue holds both good news and bad.
The good news is that most respondents to this latest poll were indeed concerned about the rise of socialism. The bad news is that a not insignificant minority were not terribly concerned or not at all concerned.
Concerns About Socialism by the Numbers
The Center Square Voters’ Voice poll surveyed 2,527 registered voters between Oct. 5th and 7th, conducted by Noble Predictive Insights (no connection to this author). While 55% of respondents expressed concern about democratic socialist candidates running for and winning public office, a staggering 37% were not concerned. And just 35% said they were very concerned. Of the 37% who were not concerned, 17% said they were not too concerned and 20% said they were not at all concerned.
The survey sampled 1,136 Republicans, 1,171 Democrats, and 220 voters who describe themselves as independents, not leaning toward either party.
America's 1776 Declaration of Independence states that all people are endowed with the natural right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Socialism has not, at any time in any country, protected those rights. In fact, history has shown that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are elusive if not impossible under a socialist regime.
The ‘Democracy’ Ruse
Advocates of socialism often attempt to soft-sell it by claiming loyalty to democracy. And that may account for Americans' apparent tolerant attitude toward socialism. The so-called Democratic Socialists of America today regularly cite European countries as examples of how socialism works. What they omit, or perhaps don't understand, is that in modern Western European countries, citizens have increasingly limited freedoms (particularly freedom of speech), are under widespread surveillance, are taxed to the eyeballs to pay for generous social welfare, and face the constant threat of physical violence as a result of virtually unchecked immigration – both legal and illegal – from Third World countries.
None of those European countries, however, are fully socialist. They are, at least in theory, free-market democracies that just happen to have expansive and expensive social welfare programs.

The current unrest in France proves that when the Democratic Socialists in America point to European countries as their model, they are not being honest. Their goal appears to go beyond anything that's currently happening in Europe toward full-blown socialism.
Apparently, the French rioters do not believe France's left-leaning government is left-wing enough.
The great irony of socialism is that it invariably creates the very society socialists claim to oppose: that is, an oligarchy in which a relatively small group of people control all the wealth and all the power, while the ordinary citizens line up all day to get their ration of food.
