The DNC Steals a Primary Play from Trump

Didn’t someone once say it’s “all about the Benjamins?”

Editor’s Note: From the Back Forty is Liberty Nation’s longest running and most popular weekly column.

As Donald Trump secures New Hampshire, yet another candidate trades in her golden goose for a benefactor of a more bluish hue. The Biden campaign is taking a page right out of the former president's primary playbook, and you’ll never guess what Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) did this week.

Haley Holds On

As GOP presidential candidates rounded the second turn this week in New Hampshire, only two viable contenders remain: Donald Trump and Nikki Haley. But her odds of becoming a winnable nominee are eroding in real-time. After a not-so-great showing in New Hampshire, Haley lost one of her golden geese. Billionaire Reid Hoffman, who supports Biden, strategically gave Haley’s super PAC a $250,000 donation in late 2023. The LinkedIn founder has decided he’s done. “We invested in Governor Haley when we thought she had a shot of winning. I’d need to see a new case, with new evidence, to persuade me that more money could help her win now,” said Hoffman adviser Dmitri Mehlhorn on the record.

Another big shot, metal magnate Andy Sabin, also ended his financial support for the former South Carolina governor. “You have to know when to hold them. You got to know when to fold them. You got to know when to walk away. It’s time for Nikki Haley to walk away.”

In Grand Haven, MI, the thought occurred that her donors play for the wrong team. “Well, well, well, look who’s buying the Presidential office again,” noted Anthony Reyes.

“I wonder what she has promised Wall Street executives and the Democrats,” asked Jessie Miller of Hartselle, Alabama. “RINO, it sounds like she’s ready and willing to sell out the rest of America.”

DNC Does a Trump

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has announced big plans for the good people of Las Vegas. They decided to prank Trump by flying a plane with a banner over his next rally in Sin City for several hours. Said banner will read: “Donald Trump: Ban Abortion, Punish Women.” It’s the same stunt Trump pulled on former presidential candidate Ron DeSantis before the Iowa Caucus, accusing the man of being a bore.

But for the climate crisis fearmongers, one might think flying around in a fossil fuel vehicle is counterproductive to saving the world. Mark Richmond, in Canton, Ohio, said that was the takeaway: “Green new deal--Flying a plane adding more pollution to the carbon footprint.” Genius, some might say.

“The DNC could have saved a lot of money by attaching that banner to the Chinese Spy Balloon the Biden Administration allowed to float across our nation for days,” came the financial advice from Mark Johnstone of Fort Wayne, Indiana. That they opted for a plane should tell folks “The DNC is in full-blown panic mode,” as Brian Campbell figured from his home in Humble, Texas. Aren’t heartlanders a pragmatic bunch?

Fetterman Unfurling

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is nothing if not a spunky fighter. He battled back from a near-death experience, won his seat in the upper chamber, and has been irritating the progressive left ever since. This week was clearly no different. When faced with progressive pro-Palestinian protesters yet again at his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, he thumbed his nose right at the gathering group. And then he retaliated by climbing to the roof and unfurling an Israeli flag. Fetterman has a new legion of fans, including Abbie Bullard Paulding from Katie, Texas, who said: “I’m actually starting to like this guy.”
