We have all, at one time or another, experienced true sexism. Whether sexist remarks have been made towards you, a family member, or a friend, it is widely understood by civilized society that such comments are degrading and inappropriate. Especially inappropriate is when government representatives make such remarks, as these comments are broadcast worldwide and draw attention to our nation.
Many members of the Democratic Party do not seem to understand the concept of respect for women, especially women with beliefs differing from the liberal agenda. The Democratic Party’s sexism is evidenced by their recent treatment of President Trump’s Counselor, Kellyanne Conway. On February 27th, Counselor Conway was caught committing the heinous act of sitting with her shoes on the oval office couch, while taking pictures of a meeting between the Trump administration and presidents of historically black colleges.
Despite Johnny Taylor, the President of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, issuing a statement on the great progress the meeting with the Trump Administration provided, many liberals decided to ignore the views of this black leader. Instead, countless leftists took to social media to broadcast their disapproval of Ms. Conway’s pose on the couch.
Really? Talk about superficial.
Bret Stephens, columnist and editor for the Wall Street Journal, tweeted that Conway was “trashy” for sitting with her shoes on the oval office couch. Another example of comes from an article in the conservative New York Post. The title of the article asks if Conway was “raised in a barn.” How mature and creative.
The worst accusation from Democrats regarding the Trump administration’s meeting with black leaders, as reported by Breitbart, undoubtedly comes from Representative Cedric Richmond (D – LA). Congressman Richmond stated that Ms. Conway “looked kind of familiar” on her knees while she sat on the oval office couch. These comments were made during a Washington Press Club dinner, and were in fact received with some laughs from the audience.
As noted by the Daily Caller, Counselor Conway fired back and commented on the liberal media’s silence on Representative Richmond’s remarks. Conway noted that had she held beliefs in alignment with the liberal agenda, the left would be coming out in multitudes to her defense. The Democratic Party seems to only respect women who politically agree with them.
Ironically, one of Richmond’s campaign promises was to stand up for female protection and equality, according to his website. Richmond’s statement – shocking even for Washington – certainly proves he is little more than a highly partisan, sexist and hypocritical public official.
Of course, the liberal media has simply ignored the sexism faced by Kellyanne Conway, and has only added to her degradation. However, as a powerful, conservative woman, Ms. Conway continues to handle her sexist opposition with professionalism, grace and dignity — something the left could stand to learn from her.
