The leftist media is at it again. If the talking heads can find a way to blame Donald Trump and his supporters for something, they will. Such appears to be the case in a variety of intimidation tactics aimed at judges in which the left insists the president is to blame. They claim Trump and the MAGA movement are behind anonymous pizza deliveries being used to frighten judges and their families.
So what’s with the pizza deliveries? Apparently, anonymous deliveries harken back to the murder of US District Judge Esther Salas’ son, Daniel Anderl. In 2020, Anderl died at the hands of a self-declared “anti-feminist” posing as a parcel delivery person – not someone who delivers pizza. But since then, unsolicited pizzas have been showing up at the homes of jurists – some of which include the name of the slain judge’s son.
Leftist media reports assert – without evidence – that “hundreds” of these deliveries have hit judges in “at least seven states” since February. Last week, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), who sits on the upper chamber’s Judiciary Committee, issued a lengthy missive to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel calling for an investigation into the incidents. Oddly, his first question to Bondi and Patel was: “How many anonymous or pseudonymous deliveries, pizza or otherwise, have been made to federal judges or their families since January 20, 2025?” Why would he ask such a thing when he could have found out from the leftist media? Could it be because they don’t really know?
Implicit in these media articles is that those on the right are to blame for terrorizing judges because of the recent spate of conflicts between the executive and judicial branches of government. To be sure, the Trump administration has argued that the judiciary has been straying from its own lane and into executive territory.
The New York Times editorial board believes they have connected the dots and issued the following in a March editorial:
“The mysterious pizza deliveries are happening at the same time that President Trump, his aides, and their allies have started an intimidation campaign against the legal system — through executive orders, social media posts, public comments, and even articles of impeachment. The evident goal is to spread anxiety and fear among judges and keep them from fulfilling their constitutional duty to insist that the Trump administration follow the law.”Even if this assertion were true, it must be pointed out that intimidation tactics are hardly exclusive to those on the right. What about when progressives surrounded the home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh? How about when Nicholas Roske was found outside Kavanaugh’s house with a Glock-17, a crowbar, a tactical knife, a hammer, a screwdriver, zip ties, and the ever-present crime scene must-have – duct tape? That appears to be more than just intimidation. Then there’s the bomb threat made to Amanda Coney Williams, the sister of Justice Amy Coney Barrett. She received an email stating, "Using a 1x8-inch threaded galvanized pipe, end caps, a kitchen timer, some wires, metal clips and homemade black powder, I've constructed a pipe bomb which I recently placed in Amy Coney Barrett's sister's mailbox at her home." Before the left could blame those unhappy with the Supreme Court justice, they needed to read the concluding sentence of the threat, which read: “Free Palestine!”
Who’s Behind the Pizza Deliveries?
It’s likely that if President Trump were asked what he thought of the anonymous pizza deliveries, he would speak out against them. But it’s much easier for the left to simply assign guilt to him and those on the right. The truth is that the argument between Trump and the judiciary is a legitimate disagreement that has been ongoing since the founding of the Republic. As the website USConstitution.net pointed out, “Historical debates between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton on federal power illustrate ongoing dialogue about judicial review's scope. Jefferson expressed concern over judicial activism becoming judicial supremacy, while Hamilton championed it as necessary for legal consistency and individual rights protection.” Such dialogue continues to this day, and anonymous pizza deliveries do not advance the argument.
