Parents beware! There’s a new Advanced Placement honors American history textbook that calls President Donald Trump supporters racist and even bashes police, and it just may be part of your child’s curriculum next year.
By the People: A History of the United States, written by New York University professor James Fraser and published by Pearson Education, a British-owned company, is being considered by schools to become a history textbook. “The Angry Election of 2016” section of the book blatantly depicts Trump supporters as racist, while showing Hilary Clinton’s supporters as the more tolerant portion of the population:
Trump voters are described as “mostly older, often rural or suburban, and overwhelmingly white” while the book uses the viewpoint of Clinton voters to describe Trump’s supporters as fearful, backwards, sexist people who supported a mentally ill candidate.
“Clinton’s supporters feared that the election had been determined by people who were afraid of a rapidly developing ethnic diversity of the country, discomfort with their candidate’s gender, and nostalgia for an earlier time in the nation’s history,” the textbook says. “They also worried about the mental stability of the president-elect and the anger that he and his supporters brought to the nation.”
Attention was brought to the book by a student at Rosemount High School in Minnesota, Tarra Snyder. She saw a copy of the book at her school, where it was being evaluated for use. Snyder said she was “appalled” at the contents, and reached out to her social media contacts for their opinion. Shortly after, it went viral.
Snyder said she hadn’t planned on making a huge statement, she just wanted to bring awareness to the public:
“There are specific parts where it goes off the rails from a historical textbook toward an op-ed,” Snyder said.
“It was really, really surprising to me,” she said. “I really believe that learning should be objective and that students can make their own decisions based on what they’re able to learn in a classroom, and if the facts are skewed then students aren’t able to make well-rounded decisions on what they believe.”

Scott Overland, spokesperson for Pearson Education, told Fox News the book was meant to be college level for high school students and to bring about debate and “critical thinking on multiple sides.” However, the reviews on Amazon tell another story.
Currently, only 25% of the reviews were positive, while 68% gave the lowest ranking of one star. There were only eight positive reviews, and the majority criticized those against the book. One person even started his review with “I have not read this book,” a great example of how the left responds willy-nilly without even being informed on the topic at hand.
Let’s take a look at a few of the negative reviews on Amazon:
- Mikko: Very liberal perspective on history by one man.
- TusenTakk: If You Have An Intense Hatred For America – Read This. A very Marxian view of American history. White man bad. Non-white man good. You get the picture.
- WBCarson: Targets a segment of the population for hate. This book is awful and could have been written by Communist USSR in 1975. A good example of why the USA ranks low Second World in test scores and kids are out protesting against the USA, its history and values.
Commenter Jon Martuneac sums the book’s contents up perfectly in his review:
“Revisionist History: A Lesson in Propaganda. This is blatantly biased revisionist history, pushing one-sided views such as:
-Trump is a racist
-All Trump supporters are racist.
-Diversity has no downsides.
-Michael Brown did nothing wrong.And that’s just the start. It’s written as a book-length opinion piece with references only scantly used. The author’s perspective of people and events colors the language of their descriptions horribly, instead of unbiased, factual language. In short, this is propaganda.”

Fraser’s book doesn’t just stop at insulting Trump and his supporters. It also puts down the police department and how they handled the Michael Brown situation, claiming his parents were held back at gunpoint. “The nearly all-white police force was seen as an occupying army in the mostly African American town…the police increased the tensions, defacing memorials set up for Brown and using rubber bullets on demonstrators,” he wrote.
Are we surprised that a left-sided history textbook may be making its way into our schools? Not at all. This is exactly the type of underhanded tactics liberals use to change history and teach our children what they want them to learn rather than the actual facts.
