The Neverending Story Ends?
Arguably the biggest story this week was not Robert Mueller’s appearance before Congress, but rather the media fallout after he failed to deliver a knockout blow. In what may go down in history as one of the most uninspiring and truculent testimonies ever given, the former special counsel prevaricated, ignored, and stumbled his way through a marathon session, leaving Democrats furious and Republicans frustrated. As Trey Gowdy so eloquently put it: “The person who learned the most about the Mueller report today was Bob Mueller.”
The immediate media reaction was that of disappointment and despair. Democrats sought to reignite the chance of obstruction charges as a weapon to wield against President Trump in the upcoming 2020 election, and were left sorely upset; most striking was that the majority of the legacy media appeared to share the politicians’ sadness … almost as if they were not impartial journalists.
It seems that the media had been hoping for some red meat from Mueller in terms of revitalizing their flagging viewership numbers. Recent figures show that since the Mueller Report was released, agencies like CNN have seen a massive drop in ratings. Could this be because the American public has moved on? Or perhaps the viewership realized that it had been strung along for two years down a rabbit hole that went nowhere.
What to Watch For
Be on the lookout for analysis of every possible interpretation of Robert Mueller’s words. Like a desperate paramedic trying to pump life back into a hapless overdose victim, the media will try to resuscitate this story in a hopeless attempt to carry ratings through to the next big Trump scandal.
Upholding the Law
Can elected politicians be seriously expected to uphold the laws of the nation? Or should they be granted special exemptions for issues that move them emotionally? This is the question that isn’t being asked by anyone whatsoever.
With President Trump’s ramping up of ICE raids to remove illegal migrants, Congressional Dems decided that this was the week to test the limits of their invulnerability by openly encouraging the breaking of the law. New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out not only messages of support to those living in the country illegally, but she also encouraged Americans to assist illegal residents in evading the law. She wrote:
“Warning: The Trump admin is expected to begin ICE raids across the country TOMORROW, targeting people for round up.
NOW is the time for us to come together:
– Check in w/ your neighbors
– Share “Know Your Rights” info
– If you see ICE, report to @UNITEDWEDREAM“
She followed up with:
“If your home can be a safe space or haven for others, let your neighbors and community know – even if it’s just to relax in the stress of this time. Plan, prepare, + protect our neighbors.”
Yes. She is actively encouraging both those who have broken immigration laws to avoid capture, and those who sympathize to take them in and provide a hiding place. The question again not being asked is whether the nation’s elected politicians can go beyond their duty to a) uphold the law as it is written, or b) change the law through the legislative process if they think it is wrong.
What to Watch For
The fact is, this will never become an issue for Democrat politicians, the legacy media, or a select group of Democrat voters. If any politician is brave enough to call out these actions, prepare for an all-out defense on the basis that Ocasio-Cortez and her followers are acting “morally,” if not “legally.”

Be on the lookout for:
- Is the Democratic Party going to try and use Trump’s negative comments about Baltimore as a way of derailing the Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign? As past remarks by the Vermont senator describing the place as a “third-world country” come to light, this could be the ammunition the DNC needs to sink his candidacy.
- Now that the Supreme Court has ruled the southern border wall can go ahead, and the Russian Collusion narrative is all but dead, be prepared for dirty tricks and media uproar over every single comment made by the president.
