Critical Theory for Those Without Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is defined as “the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment.” Afraid you don’t quite have the knack for objective analysis? Don’t worry, there’s always critical theory – which, in fact, requires the absence of critical thinking. If you’ve ever wondered why the progressive left doesn’t seem to make much sense, it’s because the identity politics that serves as the foundation of leftist thought grew out of critical theory.
Liberty Nation’s Onar Åm explained the allure:
“Critical theory gives its students a seductive super-power. They can wield enormous influence on their peers. All they need to do is criticize. They never have to make a positive contribution, and they never create or do anything valuable to others. They just criticize incessantly. In this way, mediocre almost-talents can feel morally superior to all the others who do the hard work of making the world a better place.”
What to Watch For
The destructive and addictive power of critical theory can’t be satiated with just one group of targets, and so the identity politics must continue to divide. White liberals – “good white people,” as CNN’s John Blake calls them – are feeling the progressive pressure now. It doesn’t matter how many Black Lives Matter signs are in white-owned yards, if these white liberals aren’t sacrificing themselves at the altar of racial subservience, then they’re still oppressors by virtue of their skin color.
Critical Theory in Seattle
For a prime example of critical theory in action, look no farther than Seattle, WA. Progressive city leaders don’t just want to defund the police, they also want to abolish whiteness.
Liberty Nation’s Kelli Ballard recently wrote:
“The recently-resurgent Black Lives Matter movement has so excited these progressive leaders that they can barely contain themselves. Imagine, if you will, a city where the staff holds a meeting only for its white employees to basically tell them their skin color is a crime, it is offensive, and they need to work on undoing their whiteness.”
What to Watch For
Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant’s proposal will cut the SPD budget in half and likely result in 681 of the city’s 755 patrol officers being laid off, according to Chief of Police Carmen Best. Expect crime in Seattle to get much worse once the criminal element realizes there aren’t enough officers to get in the way.
Washington Whispers & Other Juicy Tidbits
Be on the lookout for:
- Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) is considered a contender to become running mate to Joe Biden. But will her recent comments on racism help or hinder her progress? She called President Trump the “Racist-in-Chief.” This would have scored her points in the progressive camp. However, she then defied the left’s narrative by saying that she didn’t believe that a substantial percentage of Trump supporters are racist. Oops! That’s not exactly what the left wants to hear.
