Editor’s Note: From The Back Forty is Liberty Nation’s longest-running and most popular weekly column. Capturing the truth each week from heartlanders in Fly Over states, Liberty Nation gives voice to the hard-working Americans otherwise ignored by coastal elites.
Democrats and leftists of all sorts proved once again they are woefully ignorant in the ways of media manipulation. A photo taken on the U.S.-Mexico border in Del Rio, TX, spread as any good rumor will do – fast and without merit. As the Biden administration sent planeloads of hopeful Haitian refugees back to a home country in chaos, the word was out, “you aren’t welcome here.” But having traveled months in horrid conditions to ask for asylum, Haitians kept trying to cross the river to the U.S.
A photo surfaced with a description on Twitter claiming the agent in the frame was “whipping” the peaceful migrants. The vice president was quick to stifle a giggle and instead called the situation “horrible.” However, the White House, through their circle back girl, promised to investigate.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who appears to be out of his depth in handling the exploding numbers of illegal aliens coming to the border, jumped into action: “We are going to investigate the facts to ensure that the situation is as we understand it to be and if it’s anything different, we will respond accordingly.”
Investigate, Investigate, Investigate
Even Mayorkas knew – probably from asking his own agents – that the photo was mislabeled and nuclearized by people who have never been to the southern border. The activist media received a good old-fashioned lashing with a hickory stick when they attempted to convince folks that our U.S. Border Patrol agents were using whips to cut down Haitians trying to cross the Rio Grande River.
It was apparent no one bothered to ask an equestrian or rancher or Merry-go-round rider why one would have a long-split rein on a horse. As New Mexican Darel Jack observed: “Anybody that knows anything about horses and riding, you use an 8-foot split rein so that when you have to get off your horse to apprehend somebody, you got enough room.”
Or you could ask the National Border Patrol Council why the split rein and why the tactic of swirling those reins. They will tell you:
“You have seen the video of the agent spinning the rein when illegals get close to the horse. It’s to create distance between the horse and the person on the ground. Our horses easily weigh 1200 pounds, they can step on someone and break a bone or kill a small child or a person who gets too close. We also spin them if someone attempts to grab the reins because the last thing you want is someone who doesn’t know a thing about horses, to have control of the horse you are on.”
That same protocol should apply to those who open their mouths and accuse people of “whipping Haitians” for sport.
Let’s just say flyover folks, farmers, ranchers, equestrians of all disciplines whipped that fictional narrative inspired by yellow journalism and perpetuated by the activist media and the left into the light of truth.
Of course, Joe Biden had to wade into the cesspool of his own making and declared for all the agents immortalized by slander “those people will pay.” This administration handles crises like financial institutions use compound interest. The anger from the heartland was near immediate.
“At this point, Biden has absolutely no room to call anyone out when his bats left the belfry a long time ago,” said Cody Dennison in Mobile, AL. But Bryan Stanley in Ohio hoped to remind this administration of its recent, deadly transgressions: “From the President that abandoned our citizens in Afghanistan and murdered (Drone strike) seven innocent children.”
The lack of grief over the failed attack that killed innocents in Afghanistan was the theme of the day – not the use of reins to deter criminals. In Aledo, TX, Jace Hockaday struck bone: “Joe Biden and company vaporize seven children in Afghanistan, but the real story is these BP Agents mistreating the criminals at the border.”
To say the fly-over folks wholeheartedly support U.S. Border Patrol agents – including those on horseback – would be a gross understatement.
