Democrats Look to Jon Ossoff as Their Next Great White Hype

Despite all the talk on the political left about diversity, it couldn’t have escaped anyone’s attention that the Democratic Party has tried desperately, for the past 10 years, to find a white male messiah who will win over white working-class male voters. That quest has been a comedy of errors, which is likely to continue as they turn to Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff as the next reviver of their apparently dwindling traditional voter base.

The basic problem is that pretty much every white male Democrat politician is entirely unable to connect with the voters they are targeting. They try so hard to pretend they are manly men who drive pickup trucks, grill burgers, hunt and fish, and follow sports. The truth is, they ostensibly do none of those things, and to the average voter they don’t appear to have any connection to that world.

Sen. Jon Ossoff – Different Guy, Same Problems

Jon Ossoff, who was surprisingly elected to the US Senate after winning a 2021 runoff, has a similar background to most up-and-coming male Democrat politicians who try so hard to identify with blue-collar Americans. In other words, he was born into a wealthy family – in his case, not incredibly rich, but certainly not struggling to make ends meet. His father owned a publishing company. Ossoff has, by all accounts, never worked a blue-collar job.

After being educated at Georgetown and the London School of Economics, Jon Ossoff was the CEO of a media production company before becoming a member of the US Senate. He is only 39 years old and has spent little time outside his white-collar bubble.

Basically, he is cut from the same mold as Democrats Beto O’Rourke and James Talarico. Like them – and, for that matter, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz – Ossoff comes across as a low-testosterone wannabe tough guy who probably couldn’t change a car tire if his life depended on it – and has likely never had to attempt it.

Maybe it is because the progressive left, before it set about erasing the identity of women, tried to erase the concept of masculinity. Perhaps that led to the arrival of the beta males who try so hard to project the rugged, self-sufficient American male image.

Watching them try has been enormously entertaining. Talarico using a “blowtorch” (which seemed more like a hobbyist's soldering iron) and handling it as if it were about to explode was the latest in a stream of embarrassing campaign fails. Driving around in a rented pickup truck and pretending he was one of “those” guys is another.

Beto O’Rourke, during his doomed presidential campaign in 2019, yelling, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15!” was also hilarious because, no, Beto, you are not going to take them.

It reminds one of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer grilling – or pretending to grill – hamburger patties. Or Tim Walz prancing around the campaign stage in 2024 while trying to convince everyone how manly he is. And who can forget watching him supposedly working on his truck – removing what was clearly a brand-new air filter and then putting it right back in place.

Of course, in former Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, a Marine, the Democrats thought they had found the guy who would appeal to white working-class male voters. Until it was revealed that Platner, too, did not grow up working class. And then there were those inconvenient revelations about his Waffen SS tattoo and his treatment of women – not to mention the rape fantasies.

For Democrats, It’s Not Raining Men

Jon Ossoff isn’t quite as openly and shamelessly ridiculous as those others, but the similarities are obvious. And he does have that same nasty streak – willing to besmirch and defame his political opponents with no regard for the facts. During a recent campaign speech, the Georgia senator implied that President Donald Trump had an inappropriate relationship with Natalie Harp, one of his aides. Ossoff provided no evidence or supporting details whatsoever to back up the insinuation and has since attempted to distance himself from the remark.

So, why isn’t Gavin Newsom the Democrats’ great white male hope? The answer is simple. Newsom has been around too long – and has too much national recognition – for anyone to be fooled. The Golden State governor is not, and never has been, within 100 feet of working-class people in his entire life, unless they are serving him dinner at an upscale restaurant. Obviously, that is not factually provable, but it may as well be. Additionally, he’s a Californian, and Democrats already have that state as a stronghold. They need a manly, white, working-class male in one of their target states of Texas, Georgia, and Florida.

Their problem is that they don’t have any of those types of men – and Jon Ossoff is walking, talking proof that they aren’t getting any closer to finding one. Also, Ossoff is Jewish, which shouldn’t matter to normal people, but it apparently does to Democrats.
