The body count is in, and it tells a grim tale of the enormous human suffering that comes with the Biden administration’s open-border policies. Federal statistics show that 2,700 migrants have died while attempting to cross into the United States during the Biden-Harris years. That number is on par with the murder rate in Chicago, America’s deadliest city.
There were 2,136 homicides in the Windy City from 2021 to 2023. So far this year, 494 people have been slain as of Oct. 26. If that horrific pace continues, an additional 100 Chicagoans will be murdered by Dec. 31. That would make 2,730 murders in the four-year span beginning in 2021. The Biden administration seems to be presiding over a death zone at the porous US southern border akin to the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago.
More Migrants, More Death
“According to the Government Accountability Office, 2,700 migrants have perished crossing into the US under President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who was appointed ‘border czar’ in 2021,” The New York Post reported. It quoted a West Texas sheriff who explained the mountain of corpses.
“The reason we have seen more deaths is because people believe the government is allowing people into the United States and therefore, they are taking more of a risk,” Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland told the paper. “Like other areas along the southwest border, we too have seen a significant increase in illegal aliens crossings, apprehensions and gotaways.”
That risk is lethal. Much of the terrain running along the Mexico border in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico is harsh and unforgiving. Dehydration and exposure lead to agonizing deaths. Bodies are often not found for months, sometimes years. Frequently, they are never found at all.
In July, Liberty Nation News detailed the carnage in one death corridor. Sunland Park, NM, is only eight miles from El Paso, TX, a major smuggling zone for human traffickers of illegal aliens. As a result, the desert around Sunland Park has been transformed into a killing field in the summer, when temperatures soar above 100 degrees.
“US Border Patrol agents found four bodies in the desert surrounding Sunland Park, New Mexico, among about 20 lives lost in the area in just over a month,” The El Paso Times reported July 2.
In July 2023, LNN related a similar catastrophe that plagued Brooks County in Texas.
“Since 1994, at least 8,000 [illegal aliens] have perished in Brooks County alone,” Business Insider reported in January 2022. “The actual death toll is almost certainly higher than the official count, with the number of missing people far exceeding the human remains that have been discovered to date.”
One could argue that because illegal aliens have been dying along the border for decades, the Biden administration should not be singled out for special blame. This is to miss the point entirely. The White House knew how deadly the southern border could be for migrants, yet it pursued chaotic policies that were bound to escalate the carnival of death.
Orchestrated Anarchy and the Damage Done
In September 2023, the UN International Organization for Migration declared the southwest US border the “world’s deadliest land migration route.” Leaving the loaded politics of the pro-mass migration United Nations aside, it’s not an unfair designation.
“Perhaps it could be argued that the migrants who make it safely to the Southwest border benefit from their migration here, but as I’ve long been arguing – and contrary to ongoing White House contentions – there is little going on in the process that is ‘orderly’ (except to the extent that it is controlled by the cartels on the other side of the border), and nothing humane,” Andrew R. Arthur at the Center for Immigration Studies wrote last year.
Biden officials have explicitly encouraged the mass migration of illegal aliens into America. Since President Donald Trump left the White House in January 2021, the surge has been jarring.
“Consider the following, from [US Customs and Border Protection’s] own statistics: In FY 2019, Border Patrol agents at the Southwest border performed just over 4,900 searches and rescues. That figure more than doubled to 12,800-plus in FY 2021 and has nearly doubled again to more than 28,500 in just the first 10 months of FY 2023,” Arthur wrote.
“CBP statistics also reveal that 300 migrants were discovered dead by US authorities at the Southwest border in FY 2019, a figure that dropped to 254 in FY 2020 before more than doubling to 584 in FY 2021 – the last reporting year.”
You’re not going to find anyone celebrating Chicago’s hideous annual murder rate. Yet progressives in government, entertainment, the big-box media, and much of big-corporate America have paid little heed to the flood tide of migrants and the ever-rising pile of bodies accumulating.
