The House GOP has released the text of a resolution Thursday, December 7, for an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. The resolution comes months after former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced an impeachment inquiry was in the works back in September.
According to the text, panels are “directed to continue their ongoing investigations as part of the House of Representatives to exercise its Constitutional power to impeach Joseph Biden.” The resolution is scheduled for a vote on Tuesday.

To be clear: This is not a vote on articles of impeachment against the president; it’s a vote to formalize the inquiry, a stage in the process that is, practically speaking, already happening even without the resolution. According to House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH), this isn’t even constitutionally required before a vote on articles of impeachment. However, if the resolution passes the House, it would be more official, something Rep. Jordan said would be helpful in court.
