White House and Congress Clash Over Biden Impeachment

What president wouldn’t want his impeachment investigation dropped, whether guilty or innocent?

The impeachment investigation into Joe Biden and his family has gone on long enough, according to a White House lawyer who hoped to put pressure on the House of Representatives to drop the idea. But the speaker of the House isn’t taking orders from the executive – and the investigation continues. Now it’s House vs House as tensions rise and rhetoric flies.

A Showdown Between Branches

“I write to you today because it is clear the House Republican impeachment is over,” wrote White House counsel Edward Siskel. “The House Majority ought to work with the President on our economy, national security, and other important priorities on behalf of the American people, not continue to waste time on political stunts like this.” Bold words for a man with absolutely no authority to enforce them.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) clearly didn’t agree. “The White House does not get to decide how impeachment gets resolved, that is for Congress to decide,” Raj Shah, deputy chief of staff for Johnson, wrote in the official statement. The speaker himself said much the same to Fox News’ Chad Pergram. “They don’t get to call the shots on it,” he said, adding that “we’ll deliberate over that when the investigation is complete.”

“We’re allowing the process to play out as the Constitution anticipates,” Johnson said. “Our committees of jurisdiction have done their duty. They’ve done an extraordinary job. They’ve revealed some alarming information. The White House essentially sent Congress a sternly worded letter, but the speaker of the House was not impressed. The impeachment process will continue, it seems.

What’s Good for the Trump Is Good for the Biden

House Republicans have spent somewhere around a year-and-a-half working on this impeachment probe. They’ve interviewed dozens of witnesses, including the president’s son, Hunter Biden, and other friends and relatives. But wait, doesn’t this all sound familiar? For those who’ve followed politics over the last several years, it’s strikingly similar to how the Democrats refused to let go of impeaching Donald Trump – twice. And their arguments for why the GOP should drop it and get down to the “important work to be done for the American people” sounds an awful lot like how Republicans argued against Trump’s impeachments, all to no avail.

New Banner Political Power PlaysDespite not actually proving anything, Democrats impeached the former president twice. Twice he was exonerated by the Senate. Progressives went after friends, family, and anyone who had the misfortune of meeting Trump even in passing, it almost seemed. Indeed, the Democrats went so far as to charge those around Trump with crimes that either aren’t usually prosecuted or were based on novel interpretations of the law in hopes they would cut deals and testify against the Donald.

But as the old saying goes, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Or, in this case, what’s good for the Trump is good for the Biden. Donald Trump was impeached twice only to be exonerated, also twice. The very same could happen now to Biden, and the White House can’t do a thing about it. It’s entirely up to the House of Representatives if they impeach or not.

Surprise! More Executive Overreach

Of course, the question must be asked: Who really was shocked by this White House lawyer’s letter?

Liberty Nation has reported numerous cases of overreach during Joe Biden’s presidency. From a plethora of failed vaccine and travel mandates to attempting to control speech on social media platforms, and from gun control by fiat to a green war on oil, gas stoves, decent water pressure, and the incandescent light bulb, another power grab by the executive branch under President Joe Biden should surprise no one.

And if it hadn’t been for the work of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the other federal courts spread out across the nation, this president may well have pulled off the heist of the century, stealing for himself and those who succeed him vast and varied powers over the lives of everyday Americans.

Any president would want an impeachment inquiry to end – but how many would declare the investigation over in a letter to Congress, taking for granted that it’s their decision?
