WaPo’s Sanctimonious Sermon on Jesus

There are times when the hypocrisy of the left is simply breathtaking. Such is the case with E.J. Dionne’s epistle on the “heresy of Trumpism.” Indeed, Christians are desperate – or so Dionne believes in his own twisted reality –  for his words of wisdom to tell us who Jesus is and what he would do because the mass of Christians who voted for Trump are clueless. We are wretched and irredeemable and in grave need of this lesson primarily because those who support President Trump are ignorant of the Gospel.

E.J. Dionne

Taking a page from the progressive handbook of the Rev. Jim Wallis, Dionne feels the need to inculcate us with the theology behind a scheduled candlelight vigil and march to the White House taking place in the Swamp this week. This is so those of us who are evangelical halfwits can come to the knowledge and understanding of what real Christians think and believe.

But first Mr. Dionne finds it necessary to remind us of the Bellowing Bishop from the recent Royal wedding. Based on that embarrassing crawl-under-the-pew performance, the Most Rev. Michael Curry is (as we predicted) now front and center espousing his views about, as Dionne writes, “a dangerous crisis of moral and political leadership at the highest levels of government.”

Could he be harkening back to the president that likely gave the go-ahead to infiltrate a presidential campaign in a clandestine scheme to frame him and make him seem corrupt?

Rev. Michael Curry

It doesn’t seem so. This is all about Mr. Trump, despite the fact that they don’t even have the courage to name their adversary. The intention of E. J. Dionne and this assembly of preachers is to claim the moral high ground – something that the left does so often and so capably since they are the keepers of the flame of all things righteous and just.

The good Bishop along with 23 of his progressive compatriots penned “A confession of Faith in a Time of Crisis” to reject the president, his lack of Gospel comprehension and deleterious ways. And Mr. Dionne highly approves:

“It’s [the Manifesto’s] vision contrasts sharply with the approach taken by Christians who are invoking religious arguments in apologetics for a president whose actions and policies seem antithetical to almost everything Jesus taught.”

The Sanctimonious Christians

It’s difficult to determine which is more sanctimonious, Dionne or the 23 progressive theologians who write:

“THEREFORE, WE REJECT the resurgence of white nationalism and racism in our nation on many fronts, including the highest levels of political leadership. We, as followers of Jesus, must clearly reject the use of racial bigotry for political gain that we have seen. In the face of such bigotry, silence is complicity. In particular, we reject white supremacy and commit ourselves to help dismantle the systems and structures that perpetuate white preference and advantage.”

An American Comeback Story

Enter William Campudoni. A man who the world may have forgotten but whose life was forever altered by an encounter with someone who decided to take a chance on him. It was done quietly – without fanfare – but done nevertheless. What would happen if these self-righteous leftists who have cornered the market on true Christianity came up against the real-life story of Mr. Campudoni?

They write, “WE BELIEVE how we treat the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the stranger, the sick, and the prisoner is how we treat Christ himself. (Matthew 25: 31-46) “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

Well, here’s a wake-up call for them. Even if you never click on YouTube links, take a moment and watch this.

So, to all these self-righteous theologians willing to quote chapter and verse of the Bible and call our president a racist, why not spend a few minutes with Mr. Campudoni?  He will give them an earful about Jesus as well as a first-hand encounter with their nemesis. Indeed, he will tell them all about his life and times with Donald Trump. Or at the very least, Mr. Campudoni might remind them that Jesus was not a fan of the Pharisees.

As the Lord God tells us in 1 Samuel 16:7b “I don’t make decisions the way you do! Men judge by outward appearance, but I look at a man’s thoughts and intentions.” (TLB)
