Twitter Throws up a Wall on Border Issues

The Wall may not be as popular an issue as in 2016, but it’s still big enough for Twitter to censor.

In 2016, building a border wall and reducing illegal immigration were pivotal issues in the presidential election. Human trafficking, drug smuggling, and gang members crossing over onto U.S. soil were such a strong concern that Donald Trump’s promises to put a lid on the problem helped him gain the White House throne. Four years later, those worries have slipped a few notches as Americans struggle with a worldwide pandemic, lockdowns, and the loss of jobs, income, and businesses – not to mention their liberty and freedom. Even so, immigration must still be a worthy opponent to the left if Twitter finds it necessary to block border wall construction updates.

For some time now, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan has been posting updates on the border wall construction as well as captures and arrests of illegal aliens and criminals. The great minds at Twitter, in their infinite wisdom, decided that a post from the commissioner violated company rules regarding “hateful conduct.” Despite the fact that the social media giant is under investigation to see if it has violated Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act after it “reduced the distribution” of the Hunter Biden laptop story, conservative news seems to still be suppressed.

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Morgan posted a video with a tweet that had Twitter censoring and even suspending his account. The tweet read: “@CBP & @USACEHQ continue to build new wall every day. Every mile helps us stop gang members, murderers, sexual predators, and drugs from entering our country. In fact, walls work.”

In an email to explain the suspension, Twitter said, “You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.” The tweet was removed, but the commissioner sent a copy to The Federalist.

After reading the banned post several times, can you find a threat hidden in those words? It is a report and a statement of facts. The border wall is helping to reduce illegal immigration as well as aiding in preventing other criminals from gaining access to American land. So, how does that update and factual information threaten someone based on race or anything else? As explained in The Federalist:

“Those who illegally enter the United States are of many different ethnicities and foreign nationalities, including people who travel from other continents to South America to take advantage of southern border human smuggling routes.”

As of the time of the writing of this article, a similar tweet posted on Oct. 26 had yet to be removed. In it, Morgan stated: “More than 40 miles of border wall system completed in San Diego Sector. It’s helping @CBP stop illegal migration, violent crime, and deadly drugs.” Is it because it mentioned specific criminals such as “sexual predators”, “murderers”, and “gang members” that the banned post was removed while this one wasn’t? Or is it more likely that the censor-happy social media watchdog is continuing its work to quell the conservative voice and guide the presidential election away from Trump?

When it comes to the presidential candidates and their campaigns, Jessica Bolter, a policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., said immigration “… seems to feature less prominently in this campaign than it did in the 2016 campaign.” Instead, the commander in chief has “internal threats to dwell on,” such as the pandemic, riots, and protests taking over the country. But that doesn’t mean work on the border wall has come to a halt – far from it. Construction of the Wall has been sped up, not slowed down, and more than half of the 360 miles of Wall built during the current administration has been accomplished since April.

Since Trump’s immigration platform is about continuing and finishing construction on the Wall and Joe Biden’s is about ending it and promoting stronger security at border check-in sites, could it be that the left-leaning social media company wants to squash anything that might show the success of a Trump project? With Election Day just around the corner – and while immigration control may not be the top priority with everything else crazy going on – any good news for Trump is not so good for Democrats.

Commissioner Morgan said that suspending the tweets actually harms Americans by not giving them a counter statement of facts against the left’s continued attempts to move toward open borders, refusing to acknowledge the dangerous immigrants that do cross into the U.S:

“I’m sure somebody on that Twitter team has heard that everyone that illegally enters are just good people looking for a better life. The American people ultimately don’t get to hear the truth because someone at Twitter, based on their own ideology, pushed a button to prevent the truth from coming out.”
