Tuesday, August 1, Jack Smith unsealed a new, four-count criminal indictment against former president Donald J. Trump. The charges concern Trump acting to “defeat the lawful federal government function” of vote collection, counting, and certification during the aftermath of the 2020 election. The Department of Justice special counsel filed the indictment in a Washington, DC federal court. He said, “I encourage everyone to read it in full.”
