The War on Christmas Leaves Charred Casualties

Burning Christmas trees is the latest attack on the holiday.

The War on Christmas is taking no prisoners in 2021. What was once a handful of angry extremists on the fringes wailing about the lack of celebrations for those who don’t follow Christianity has now morphed into a group of woke warriors wreaking havoc during the holiday, hoping to frighten those who commemorate the Son of God or even simply love shiny objects. As if we don’t have enough anxiety already with Omicron, a nationwide Santa shortage, looting, and defunding police, we can now add burning Christmas trees.

The latest crime-ridden city to experience the willful act of arson against humanity is the Big (and slightly wormy) Apple. One lone homeless man somehow found himself in possession of paper for kindling and a Bic-style disposable lighter in the wee morning hours. The 49-year-old man, Craig Tamanaha, climbed up the metal frame of the 50-foot All American decorated tree in front of Fox News Studios and set it ablaze. And barely made it back down the scaffolding before being arrested and charged with arson, criminal trespassing, criminal tampering, criminal mischief, endangering others, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment.

Mr. Tamanaha was released without bail later in the day and instructed by the judge to appear in court on January 4, to which he responded “Today I have to be here?” In keeping with the Christmas spirit, the judge also saw fit to vacate two open warrants on the accused.

One local law enforcement officer told the media that the festal inferno was a direct result of New York City’s policies and procedures: “It’s just eight years of the [Mayor Bill] De Blasio grift and wasteful spending that let thousands of homeless, emotionally disturbed people roam the streets, left to their own devices,” the unnamed source relayed.

Is it any wonder there’s an exodus from the city where crime never sleeps? Apologies for paraphrasing Mr. Sinatra’s ode to NYC. The tree burning trend is being seen in other liberal-controlled metro areas with soaring crime stats. So, what the heck is this all accomplishing?

Copycat Christmas Serial Killers

Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s exhausted Windy City also seems to be a hotbed for Christmas tree annihilators. A neighborhood beautification group, My Block, My Hood, My City, is the latest victim. After officially lighting a decorated tree in Washington Park, the symbol of love and unity was set ablaze – the second time in as many Christmas seasons. Members of the neighborhood group issued a scathing statement on the woes of their community:

“It’s unfortunate that an event that was supposed to bring the community together resulted in the burning of a beautiful tree. While it is a setback, it’s not going to stop us from beautifying the community through the holiday season.”

But adding further insult to injury, while the group was working on a fence in Chicago’s iconic Douglas community, a white SUV rolled up, and a group of grinches jumped out and robbed them of wallets and purses. So far, the community activists have decorated 200 homes in the neighborhood. Cindy-Lou Who would be proud.

In trendy Jack London Square, a fully decorated tree was awaiting the official lighting ceremony this coming weekend. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite make it.

Why the war on Christmas? Has it become a symbol of hate or white privilege in the freest country in the world? Is it a Tik Tok challenge? Is it a mental illness or simply an opportunity in crime-infested cities to show off thug power with a liberal get out of jail free card? Without regard to anyone else’s feelings, the holiday is being attacked. And frankly, this country does not need anyone else trying to divide us further and stir up trouble. Can we not just share a few weeks of peace on Earth and goodwill toward others?
