The Midnight Ride of Mail-In Balloting

Nevada sneaks in the dark of night to authorize the all-mail-in vote.

Slamming Governor Steve Sisolak as “clubhouse,” President Donald Trump admonished Nevada for passing an 11th-hour bill authorizing a mail-in-ballot-only election. The bill also will allow Democrat Sisolak the power to alter election procedures as deemed fit in a state of emergency. This means COVID-19 may be credited and blamed for the outcome of Election 2020.

Another bill proviso allows an expansion of who can turn in a ballot, and that has Republicans feeling anxious about ballot-harvesting loopholes.

Liberty Nation’s Graham J. Noble with absolute clarity warns of a vote-by-mail process that Democrats praise:

“The latest effort by the left is to promote mail-in-voting which obviously creates the potential for election fraud on a massive scale. Just as concerning, though, is the fact that the entire electoral process, if conducted exclusively by mail, is removed from the public gaze. Elections would become virtually secret affairs … when people who claim to be defending democracy suggest a complete overhaul of the electoral process, Americans should be afraid.”

Nevada passing a midnight bill is alarming. And, as completely expected, Trump blew up Twitter first thing the morning after:

“In an illegal late-night coup, Nevada’s clubhouse Governor made it impossible for Republicans to win the state. Post Office could never handle the Traffic of Mail-In Votes without preparation. Using COVID to steal the state. See you in Court!”

Who doesn’t love a week that starts with the threat of a federal lawsuit? It appears the Democrats didn’t appreciate it one iota.

Why So Desperate?

Nevada Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson and Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro — both Democrats — were put out that Trump would dare interfere in the late-night shenanigans in Carson City. Heads together, they responded with this pithy declaration of angst against Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and Trump:

“The comments made by President Trump and RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel regarding Assembly Bill 4 are disgraceful and patently false. This is a clear fear-mongering attempt by the GOP to suppress voters this November as part of an effort to shield themselves from the backlash of a failed administration.”

Hasn’t America had enough with such playbook words as “fear-mongering”? But I digress.

Nevada isn’t the first state to incorporate vote-by-mail and reduce the number of folks going to their local polling place. Five states — Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Utah — have mostly gone to mail-in ballots for all who are registered, in which voters are automatically sent ballots in a timely fashion for upcoming election dates. Nearly every state in the Union has some mail-in option for those with a good excuse, such as being out of town, ill, or committing voter fraud. Just a few of the reasons why a vote from the living room is necessary.

Of course, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is parroting the party line that Trump is trying to “indirectly steal” the election by casting doubt on the fairness of the process. Biden repeatedly uses that theft accusation on the talking head shows of late.

As America rounds the corner and barrels toward Election 2020, an eerie sensation of 2016 déjà vu permeates the landscape: Will you accept the election results? The question was asked of Trump nigh on a million times, yet when the dust settled after a Trump victory, Hillary Clinton not only dodged a concession speech but also haunted the airwaves as the new administration took up residence in the White House. And they are asking the president, again, to commit to a yes or no answer on 2020 results.

Some things to make one go, “Hmm?”

Regardless of the howling sure to happen on Nov. 4, one thing is perfectly clear: The most excellent excuse in the history of our constitutional republic for unverified and potentially fraudulent voting is COVID-19.
