The Left’s Closing Argument: Abortion, Jan. 6, Socialism

Even increasingly disastrous poll results have failed to convince Democrats to address voters’ real concerns.

It is truly remarkable how tone-deaf and out of touch with reality Democrats have become since they barely clung to the slimmest of majorities in Congress two years ago. They lost 15 seats in the House of Representatives and finished with a tie in the Senate. But they have governed as if they had scored a landslide victory complete with a mandate to dive deep into socialism by taking a wrecking ball to both the constitutional order and the federal budget. There is no other way to describe concerted efforts to: pack the Supreme Court, add new left-wing states, throw trillions upon trillions of taxpayer — and borrowed — dollars at yet more massive centralized social welfare schemes, and enforce speech codes and wokeness upon the nation.

Now, as the bill for their reckless governance is about to come due, how are Democrats trying to overcome the losing hand they have dealt themselves as the final days of the midterm campaign wind down? Are they following political best practices and posturing as more reassuringly centrist than frighteningly socialist? Are they responding to the stated concerns of dissatisfied voters, telling them that they’ve been heard, that Democrats have now learned their lesson, and will not again engage in budget-busting boondoggles like Build Back Better? Will they at least claim to reject the cancel culture they have openly set loose on the country since the summer of shame in 2020?

Actually, they are doing none of those things.

Socialism: Still the Currency of Democrats

Democrats have been consistent in one thing: denying reality. Joe Biden tries to gaslight the citizenry into believing the economy is strong, when we all know — or at least fear with good reason given yet another imminent interest rate hike from the Fed — that a recession is right around the corner, if it hasn’t already arrived. He pooh-poohs the raging political disaster known as inflation, which has necessitated all the rate hikes, of which voters are reminded every time they spend a dime. And Democrats writ large claim that both the crime wave across urban America and the genuine crisis at the southern border are greatly exaggerated by the right.

But those are merely efforts at damage control on a whole series of toxic narratives. What proactive steps are they taking to at least position themselves more favorably as Nov. 8 beckons?

Well, they held what seemed like endless hearings about Jan. 6, without even assigning one of their own to take the lead — they used Republican Liz Cheney as their front woman. Biden tried to buy off young voters with his taxpayer-funded student loan bailout, but that has backfired big-time. He drained the Strategic Oil Reserve — designed for national emergencies — down to its lowest point in decades for the naked political purpose of reducing gas prices that have spiked more than 60% since he took office. He served as host at the White House to transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, endorsing the mutilation and sterilization of children using puberty-blockers and gender-transition surgery, even without parental notification.

This president’s closing argument also included his assertion that airlines charging extra for more legroom is racist — seriously. Biden’s Pentagon has promised to expend taxpayer dollars to pay the travel costs of armed service members seeking abortions. Oh, and Biden has said his first act in the new year will be pushing a bill he knows has zero chance of passage, exceeding the inherent limits in Roe v. Wade, to make abortions legal across the nation all the way through the ninth month.

There have been too many examples to chronicle in one place of Democrats failing miserably to read the room in this 2022 campaign cycle, but New York Gov. Kathy Hochul might serve as the poster child for cluelessness. When her opponent, Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), castigated her and her party in their recent debate for supporting cashless bail that has led to so many repeat offenders committing horrific crimes, Hochul responded, “I don’t know why that’s so important to you.” Jaw-dropping.

One of the press’ most predictable knee-jerk liberals, Juan Williams, wrote a column ominously entitled “Democracy hangs in the balance in the midterms.” Left-wing Slate featured a prominent article advertising the left’s failure to heed constituents, headlined “Why Democrats Should Keep Prioritizing Abortion.” And in interviewing New Hampshire’s Republican Gov. Chris Sununu, NBC’s infamous host of Meet the Press, Chuck Todd, outed himself once again as not only heavily biased — we have long known that — but also utterly incapable of understanding the real concerns of everyday Americans. Todd consumed almost all of the interview by pushing Sununu over and over on the issue of Jan. 6: “Why are you supporting an election denialist? … You think [grocery prices] should be prioritized over election denialism? …  Are you at all concerned, though, that maybe concern over inflation sweeps in a whole bunch of Republicans that define the party as a bunch of election denialists, Kari Lake in Arizona being exhibit A?”

Sununu’s response to Todd said it all: “You are in a bubble if you think anybody’s talking about what happened in 2020 or talking about Mar-a-Lago and all that … People are talking about what is happening in their pocketbooks every single day when they have to buy groceries or fill up gas … It kind of has baffled me through this whole campaign season, the fact that Democrats keep pushing this stuff and talking about things that aren’t really what voters want to hear about.”

This is the bed Democrats and their media sycophants have made for themselves, and soon they will lie in it.
