Please allow me a moment of your time with the following rant. This is written on behalf of those who have suffered progressivism for the last eight years (at least). Think of it as a bit of wise counsel for those on the left who cannot stop their whining and gnashing of teeth. It is not a punch in the nose as much as it is an instruction handbook for those who have lost the fight, the battle, and the political war this year. You’ve had your turn, and you’ve made a mess of things.
This is our moment. Our time. Now just watch what can happen when grown-ups take charge.
If you’re a liberal, life as you know it has just ended, and you’re now forced to live in a world of dystopian hatred, and God knows what else. At least, that’s what you keep telling everyone and anyone who has a microphone. For many of you, the question of how Trump (or, as some of you call him, The Destroyer of Worlds) got elected is just too much even to wrap your head around. As a public service, your fellow Americans would like to offer this short list of philosophical points you need to know going forward. Call it a bit of a survival guide for the next four to eight years.
Americans don’t like being told how to think.
This idea is one that you should be familiar with; after all, you certainly don’t like being forced to deal with facts that don’t fit your agenda. Everyone has the right to think whatever they want, you tell us, and we wholeheartedly agree. So much so, that we also refuse to allow you to tell us what we should think, too. It means that when you berate us on airplanes, we will shrug and wait for the flight attendants to remove you from our flights. It means that when you tell us that guns are always evil and shouldn’t be used (ever), we buy more of them and dare you to take them.
We don’t answer to you.
Contrary to what you seem to believe, you are no one’s boss—and certainly not ours. As much as you’d like to believe it — you are not the arbiters of fairness and justice. We already know life isn’t fair, and we choose to plan for such things instead of whining and wailing for someone to make our boo-boo all better. You are not the ones who will dictate how we defend ourselves, or how we raise our kids. Frankly, you will not be dictating anything to us anymore.
We aren’t going to let you control things anymore.
Here’s the big one. You’ve gotten to control things for a long time, and you accomplished nothing. Certainly nothing positive. In fact, you managed to make this nation the laughing stock of the world while you shoved your twisted social agenda down our throats and put your feelings before everything else. We will raise our flags, put up Mangers on our front lawns and in the very near future we plan on choosing our own size of soda and perhaps even (gasp) avoid tofu and kale.
Simply put, your days of controlling our behavior are over. You’re done now; it’s time for you to let the adults run things.
The bottom line is simple: It doesn’t matter what your feelings are, or whether your safe space has enough crayons and juice boxes, or whether someone is calling you the right combination of letters x, z, and e. You’re no longer in charge. You can stand on the street screaming and smashing things, or you can accept it, and figure out how best to contribute in a positive, meaningful way to the community around you – because your resistance is meaningless, nay laughable to us.
