A massive fraud scandal, a refusal to comply with the enforcement of federal laws, and now a governor facing possible impeachment have put the state of Minnesota front and center in the public eye in the past couple of months. And things appear set to only get worse as the rhetoric from left-wing activists, certain elected Democrats, and their enablers in the media becomes even more incendiary.
On Jan. 13, five Republican state representatives drafted articles of impeachment against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who recently announced he was abandoning a bid to win a third term as the state’s chief executive.
Tim Walz on the Ropes
It appears the move is designed primarily to force Walz to resign. The governor seems to be in full panic mode. He finally admitted what everyone already knew. Addressing the billions in misappropriated taxpayer dollars, Walz said, “In this state, there’s full accountability for everybody because I… I… buck stops with me. I’m accountable for this – and because of that accountability I’m not running for office again.”
It sounded as though Walz is hoping or assuming that, by simply declining to run for another term and saying this is his way of holding himself accountable, no further action should be taken against him. He may be hoping for too much.
The four articles of impeachment Walz is looking at claim the governor:
1. Allowed fraud despite being warned,
2. Engaged in the cover-up,
3. Allowed agencies to continue without any further safeguards,
and,
4. Allowed safeguards to be ignored and failed to ensure agencies complied with anti-fraud programs
Minnesota Burning?
Meanwhile, on the streets of Minnesota and in newsrooms across the country, it feels like the progressive-socialist left is trying to recreate the summer of chaos – or as one elected official infamously described it, the “summer of love” – that swept the nation in 2020. The result back then was violence and massive destruction, as well as a number of fatalities.
The left doesn’t have its George Floyd, this time around – or does it? Renee Good, the woman who was shot and killed after allegedly striking an ICE agent with her SUV, could be the catalyst. There’s no racial element, this time, since Good was white. Still, the George Floyd riots were less about real or perceived racial injustice than they were a product of left-wing propaganda and activism. It is also likely that the left no longer has the kind of funding that went into the madness of 2020.
Yet, the heat continues to be turned up. Social media is awash with threats against ICE and, for many protesters, there may be competition to see who can video the most intense or even violent confrontations with ICE officers to get those clicks, likes, and reposts.
Is it only a matter of time before the escalating trouble produces more deaths? That seems certain. Will the intensity of the unrest in Minnesota spread to other states? It is yet to be seen. But the midterm elections are a little more than nine months away, and there are just a few more weeks until spring is on the horizon. Additionally, the Democrats are reeling from historically low approval ratings and need something to keep everyone distracted from the fact that their only agenda is – still – get Trump. The recipe is all there for another season of civil unrest.
