What would you deduce about a major political party that trots out an open-borders La Raza extremist to dominate questioning at a presidential primary debate, features a nine-year-old “transgender” child querying its supposed front runner at a nationally televised town hall, and now boasts a prominent 2020 hopeful from the most populous state in the country associating herself with abortion rights up to the moment of birth?
If one can leave personal biases aside and focus on practical political operation, one would have to conclude that the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are not serious about winning a general election for the White House.
Ugly Association
On Oct. 27, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), who has repeatedly declared that the next president of the United States must be a “unifier,” took a very deliberate moment away from her usual campaign stops to travel to the Washington, D.C. suburb of Northern Virginia. She traveled there to boost the re-election campaign of state Delegate Kathy Tran. Tran became notorious in January for being the chief proponent of a bill to allow abortion without time limit in the Old Dominion.

“How late in the third trimester could a physician perform an abortion?” Tran was asked regarding her legislation. “Through the third trimester. The third trimester goes all the way up to forty weeks … I don’t think we have a limit in the bill,” was her reply.
Delegate Todd Gilbert further asked her, “Where it’s obvious a woman is about to give birth?” To that, Tran responded, “My bill would allow that, yes.”
The bill, which failed to move past committee, brought down a hurricane of denunciation upon Tran, who became the face of Democrat radicalism in the early months of 2019. Vice President Mike Pence joined in on slamming the state representative. “To support, let alone cheer, late-term abortions not only marks a disturbing step backward by so-called ‘progressives’ — it also violates every demand of human decency,” he wrote in an op-ed for National Review. “There’s another word for this: infanticide. And it is morally reprehensible and evil.”
For practical political purposes alone, highlighting abortion at the end of pregnancy is not something even the staunchest of pro-abortion advocates would want to see become a subject of national conversation. Yet Harris traveled to Virginia to identify herself with this very baggage.
“She is somebody who never puts up her finger and says, ‘Oh, is this going to be popular or not?’” Harris said of Tran. “You know that. You know she’s taken on huge fights, in particular for the women of Virginia and the families that love them, saying it’s not about what’s popular at the moment. It’s about what’s right. And these are the kinds of leaders we need in our statehouses.”
Inexplicable on the Surface

Rallying for Tran in the middle of a presidential campaign would appear to be an odd move for Harris, to say the least. It’s hard to see the advantage in pushing a previously obscure state delegate who became easy fodder for Republican attacks on Democrat extremism back into the spotlight. Dems were no doubt relieved when Tran faded back into the woodwork as the cacophony of the 24-hour news cycle moved on to other cataclysms. So why put her on the national radar once again?
Harris has to know that openly embracing a 2019 face of party radicalism would further remove her from any claim to appeal to voters outside the progressive blue bubble in a general election. “We’ve got to unify the country around our common values, around our common hopes and dreams,” Harris has stated of her alleged campaign goals. Quite simply, one doesn’t unify anything by going out of the way to promote 40-week abortion. And it will likely do little to improve Harris’ standing within her own base of support. It’s doubtful that re-emphasizing such a position will separate Harris in any meaningful way from the rest of a Dem field that can be counted on to parrot every aspect of pro-abortion dogma. But it most certainly will turn off moderate voters who may have been open to hearing more from the Golden State senator.
So why did she do it? Why did yet another 2020 Democratic presidential candidate choose to make a very public gesture that can only harm her own personal chances of winning the White House? The only explanation that makes sense is that the real forces driving this 2020 Dem primary compelled her to do so. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the candidates themselves do not have personal agency in this horse race. They appear wholly subservient to the wishes of powerful progressive entities calling the shots behind closed doors.
What’s Really Going On?
Tran expressed complete surprise and frustration at becoming an emblem of infanticide with her shocking legislation. And with good reason. Her bill was a mirror of pre-fabricated “model legislation” written by extremist leftist groups funded by progressive billionaire George Soros. It is quite plausible that Tran did not understand the full horrific scope of the very legislation she was advocating for the simple reason that the bill proposed in her name may have been written by an out-of-state professional activist.
These same radical groups hold powerful sway in the national Dem ranks. A prominent figure like Harris had to be dispatched to show that Tran would not be abandoned by the progressives who used her as a glorified courier to promote their radical legislation. To leave her twisting in the wind after she dutifully performed her task would deter future legislators from acting similarly in the future. Harris had to stand with Tran to send the message that service to the progressive cause will be rewarded.
George Soros
Democracy Alliance, a well-heeled progressive group that receives major funding from Soros, has financially backed the State Innovation Exchange, a network expressly created to develop legislation for multi-state use. The growth of groups such as State Innovation Exchange with its “model legislation” and pre-fabricated multi-state networking essentially means that local elected officials are little more than caddies for professional progressive activists.
In November 2017, Democracy Alliance hosted a secretive conference of progressive power players in Washington, D.C. The event’s stated goal was to hash out a strategy for the 2020 election. The Washington Free Beacon reports Kamala Harris introduced Soros via video message at the conference.
Why did Kamala Harris give a very public hug to the ugliest side of abortion when all political reason would argue against such a completely unnecessary move? It would seem she did because she was told to do it.
