Americans seem to shrug off these stories nowadays because they have become so commonplace. But how is it that illegal aliens are allowed to accrue multiple DWI arrests? Foreigners with no legal standing to be in this nation are caught in the act of posing an acute lethal threat on public roads only to be routinely processed through the system and returned to society. Repeatedly.
“United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould announced that an illegal alien from Mexico, with seven convictions for driving while intoxicated, was sentenced to 6+ years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States,” the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas announced Sept. 29 in a news release. “Fernando Salvador Perez Morales, 46, was indicted in November 2025 for illegally reentering the US.”
District Attorney Ray Tierney said in a statement. “Less than two weeks after his fourth felony DWI conviction, and despite explicit instructions not to drive, the defendant once again got behind the wheel of a vehicle.”
Two Dead Young Americans in Rowan County
So why did it take three felony convictions before Aguilar-Alvarez was first deported in 2024? The consequences of this blind eye to endemic lawlessness have been fatal to American citizens, as this Jan. 23 news release from the Department of Homeland Security crushingly relates:
“The US Department of Homeland Security today announced US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an arrest detainer for Juan Alvarado-Aguilar, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico accused of killing 20-year-old Fletcher Harris and 19-year-old Skylar Provenza in Rowan County, North Carolina on January 16.
“According to local reports, Alvarado-Aguilar is facing charges for death by vehicle and driving while impaired (DWI) for allegedly crossing a double yellow line while driving and colliding with Harris and Provenza. On January 17, ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the Rowan County Jail on Alvarado-Aguilar, requesting the jail notify ICE prior to releasing him into the community, so our officers can arrest this illegal alien before he is released onto our roads to kill more innocent Americans.”
It should go without saying that only sheer chance prevented Fernando Salvador Perez Morales or Pablo Aguilar-Alvarez from similarly killing innocent citizens. Two young Americans have had their entire adult lives snuffed out before they ever really began, and a similar tragedy could have easily occurred any of the 11 times Perez Morales and Aguilar-Alvarez were apprehended while driving drunk. Or all those times they weren’t caught.
How did we as a nation become this unserious, this unfeeling, about an urgent matter of basic safety? Amazingly, the supporters of illegal immigration and their big-box media allies for years sought to frame the issue as merely another attempt to demonize illegal aliens.
A Toxic Big Media Narrative From Years Ago
“When an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala hit and killed an 8-year-old girl and her mother in 2009, some people in the town of Brewster, New York, made the debate about the man’s immigration status,” ABC News wrote in the accusatory lead sentence of a 2013 article titled “How Drunk Driving Turned Into an Immigration Issue.” The subhead: “Myth busting around immigration and DUIs.”
The link to the article includes the word Univision, indicating this was written under the ABC-Univision news joint venture Fusion that existed at the time. The idea that drunk driving illegal aliens are a topic “most relevant for US Hispanics,” as Fusion touted itself, speaks volumes as to how this deadly menace was treated as just another spoke in the “pro-immigration” wheel 13 years ago. Author Ted Hesson served as “immigration editor” for Fusion from 2012-2015.

The article asserted that “immigrants [what about just illegal aliens?] aren't more likely to drive under the influence than native-born Americans, according to a 2008 study by the National Institutes of Health” and the real problem was refusing to grant driver’s licenses to illegals, since unlicensed driving “is significantly more dangerous than driving [with] a license.”
An even more dismissive 2009 New York Times article on the same horrific incident acknowledged that “[a]lcohol abuse is a very visible issue in the immigrant community, mostly young men with little to do other than work.” Spoiler alert: They’re referring to illegal aliens. “But it’s an issue in the majority community as well,” the paper then bizarrely added.
“And while there’s some hostility directed at the immigrants [they mean illegals], others take pains to separate the seemingly unsolvable issues of immigration legalization and enforcement from the men on the street working backbreaking jobs no one else wants to support their families,” the piece continued.
This was a supposed “news” article about the deaths of an 8-year-old child and her mother at the hands of a drunk illegal alien illegally operating a motor vehicle and The New York Times turned it into a plea for understanding for the hardworking illegals who may take to drink after another tough day of manual labor. The callousness is beyond contempt. This is how we got here.
Multiple successful illegal crossings into America. Multiple felony DWIs on American roads. Sympathetic narratives from powerful pro-immigration platforms in America declaring that you are the real victim in the grand scheme of things. Why should an illegal alien have any respect for the laws and people of this nation?
