Gunslingers for Liberty: Impeachment Follies – 10.27.19

Everything comes back to impeachment and the damning desire to disrupt.

Impeachment Mayhem

Reality may soon be biting, and with teeth sharper than desperate Democrats could have envisioned. As the impeachment circus begins to get wildly out of control, the long sought after support from the voting public has failed to materialize, leaving only publicity-hungry politicos speaking to biased journos in an echo-chamber experiment of epic proportions.

Recent polling from numerous sources suggests that even when oversampling of Democrats is done, support for impeachment sits at about 44/45 %, roughly the same figure that does not support it. But it gets worse. In the eyes of the public, it is starting to appear that Democrats are trying to run a secret trial of the president, and that this may be little more than an attempt to win points before the all-important 2020 election.

With each closed-door testimony, Democrats leave with a spring in their step desperate to tell the nearest reporter that they have found yet another smoking gun in the impeachment inquiry. After the testimony of William Taylor, a former US Diplomat to Ukraine, the ebullient Dems declared it a “game-changer.”

As Taylor’s testimony is directly contracted by other witnesses, it is difficult to see what game has actually changed. As Liberty Nation’s Mark Angelides writes:

“It would appear this investigation is about the election; about winning power in 2020. When the party faithful announced the Taylor testimony was a game-changer, perhaps they meant in terms of time? They now have just enough leverage to drag these proceedings out interminably, or at least until there’s a new game to play.”

What to Watch For

With Republicans recently trying to crash a closed-door session, how much longer can Democrats really justify keeping things under wraps? Even the media must be wondering why this secret when much of the Russia investigation was not.

The Enemy Within

It appears a dark force has entered American politics. Someone that could be so damaging to the Republican Party that voters are pulling as far away as possible. His name is Pierre Delecto, and he has always wanted to be president.

Mitt Romney revealed that he has an alter-ego in the Twittersphere; intrepid “Twitter Archeologists” discovered the identity and the world was introduced to Mr. Delecto. What do we know of him? Well, we know he shills for Mitt Romney, engages in arguments to defend Mitt Romney, and finally, that he has probably killed off the political career of the aforementioned Mr. Romney. As Liberty Nation’s Graham J. Noble put it so eloquently:

“Enter (on Twitter) Pierre Delecto. Sounding more like a 1970s porn star, Delecto is the Mr. Hyde to Romney’s Dr. Jekyll – only, we must presume, without the homicidal tendencies. As Delecto, Romney spent most of his time trying to make himself look good, defending himself to reporters, and bashing Trump. He may or may not also have been delivering pizzas or cleaning the pools of shapely but lonely wives. If Pierre had a PhD, we might have expected Dr. Delecto to be plotting world domination from a secret, high-tech bunker beneath a volcano.”

But this was really not (or shouldn’t have been) the biggest Romney story of the week. Far more important was his refusal to back President Trump in the impeachment inquiry and effectively suggesting to Democrats that he is open for business in terms of being the pivot they build a Senate majority around.

What to Watch For

Romney will begin courting other Senate Republicans to at the very least state that they will not oppose what is quite clearly a railroading of President Trump. He does not expect to get on the ticket in 2020, but being able to build a coalition of anti-Trumpers may just see him get the 2024 nomination.

Washington Whispers & Other Juicy Tidbits

Be on the lookout for:

  • Hillary Clinton is just itching to throw her hat in the ring for 2020. She has quite rightly seen that the present crop of Democrat contenders would fare poorly against Trump despite what those ever-so-misleading polls predict (she should know). But could Bernie supporters really stomach another usurpation of power?
  • Elizabeth Warren is about to be scrutinized on a much deeper level. It’s all well and good suggesting that you “have a plan for that,” but when you seek the highest office in the land, those plans will need examining. Sadly for Warren, it looks like her Medicare-for-all plan involves nothing but debt and much higher taxes… not something she will be able to sell to the nation.
