From Spilled Milk to Van Gogh – The Kids Are Not All Right

What's wrong with kids these days?

Poor Vincent van Gogh – the world weeps for him. All he ever did was provide mankind with beauty and his ear. For that selfless act, his gorgeous “Sunflowers” painting was defaced with tomato soup. This was not a fair exchange. An equal amount of tears should also be shed for those poor cows that had their teats yanked only for petulant climate activists to purposefully spill milk in supermarkets and convenience stores. Did their parents tell them to get a job, and these hooligans threw a hissy fit instead? Indeed, the kids are not all right, but based on the content seen on Tik Tok daily, the adults already knew this.

Van Gogh Doused with Tomatoes

A pair of climate activists recently huffed and puffed at the National Gallery in London, throwing two cans of tomato soup over the Dutch artists’ iconic oil painting and gluing themselves to the gallery wall. What would have happened if they were left there to feast on remnants of the can’s contents eventually? The answer rests in another timeline in a different universe. Anyway, the painting was unharmed because it was covered by glass, but the frame had some minor damage. Score one for van Gogh! Following their nonsensical spectacle, the two female members of the campaign group Just Stop Oil – the organization’s goal is in the name – were removed by specialists, taken into custody, and sent to a London court on charges of criminal damages, where they pleaded not guilty.

“What is worth more, art or life? Is it worth more than food? Worth more than justice? Are you more concerned about the protection of a painting or the protection of our planet and people,” one activist asked in a video of the event. Well, to quote comedic genius George Carlin: “The planet is fine. The people are …” You can guess the six-letter word used by the vulgar gentleman.

For the last couple of weeks, Just Stop Oil has been protesting across London, perhaps singing the classic Broadway tune “With a Little Bit of Luck” from My Fair Lady: “With a little bit of luck, you’ll never work.” They have been trying to save Mother Nature in the strangest of ways, from sitting on the road in front of trucks to destroying pumps at gasoline stations. Perhaps they are playing a game of Darwinism to rescue Earth. This is all ostensibly “in response to the government’s inaction on both the cost of living [sic] crisis and the climate crisis.” As Liberty Nation’s Sarah Cowgill is famous for sarcastically uttering, bless their hearts because they might not realize their progressive policies contributed to this inflationary environment.

Spoiled Milk

Across the United Kingdom – what in the Dickens is happening in the land of William Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, and Arthur Conan Doyle? – teenagers are engaging in a new environmental trend described as “milk pours.” The ungrateful act consists of strolling into a grocery store, opening cartons or jugs of milk, and pouring the contents onto the ground. Animal rights group Animal Rebellion conceived this brilliant idea.

“The dairy industry is incredibly environmentally destructive. The world’s top 5 meat and dairy corporations are now responsible for more GHG emissions than Exxon, Shell or BP,” the organization said in a tweet Saturday. “We NEED a plant-based future now.”

Are these accurate claims? It depends upon your point of view, but now think of all the intellectual pollution the world inhaled by watching these individuals partake in a baffling stunt that hurt small businesses. So, not only are minimum wage workers responsible for cleaning up the mess made by these most likely middle-class progressives in skinny jeans, but they think food waste is the answer to the plethora of environmental problems facing the UK.

Meanwhile, despite the nutritional benefits of plant-based foods, the activists might not be aware that forcing eight billion people to imbibe soybeans and drink almond milk may not be the wisest public policy proposal. The world is watching the tragedy and devastation unfolding in Sri Lanka as the country embraced green farming.

Besides, their beef about greenhouse gas emissions should not be with the agricultural sector. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), just 11% of the West’s GHG emanates from this industry.

Visiting South Sudan

South Sudan is perhaps one of the poorest nations on the planet. The country is enduring extreme levels of food insecurity and malnutrition, turning the state into a perpetual humanitarian crisis. As many as eight million people – it has a population of 11 million – need emergency food assistance. It is a dire and dreadful situation, and the international community’s horrific response to COVID-19 exacerbated the situation in South Sudan and a myriad of other places suffering from the same conditions.

Why does this matter? These millions of impoverished and hungry citizens would welcome an abundance of milk and fuel to survive. They would not be ungrateful and choose to waste an incredible volume of essential items for some political crusade. It is comparable to telling a six-year-old that children are starving in Africa, only for that same child to throw a tantrum and start whining about how cow’s milk “causes around three times as much greenhouse gas emissions!” Kids these days.
