The Department of Justice (DOJ) has found 350,000 dead people currently on voter rolls, in a search of 60 million records. It also discovered around 25,000 people with no citizenship records, according to Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon. She says these have been referred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for investigation.
In an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo on April 19, Dhillon discussed what she called the agency’s “comprehensive effort.” She has requested voter rolls from all 50 states and Washington DC, but only about a third have voluntarily complied or reached a settlement with the department.
“I’m suing 29 states and the District of Columbia for their refusal to give us the voter rolls to which the attorney general, or the acting attorney general, is entitled under the Civil Rights Act of 1960. We’re doing that to make sure that states are in compliance and guess what? States are not in compliance, even those who want to.”
Dhillon said she was working with voting rights activists who have given her information about non-citizens who have cast a ballot.
Minnesota Republican State Rep. Pam Altendorf responded to Dhillon’s announcement on X:
“Here in [Minnesota], Secretary of State Steve Simon claims our voter rolls are clean, but refuses to get federal government help. 2023 Democrats legalized Drivers Licenses for all with no distinction on the license marking eligible to vote. Every vote [is] in question……dilutes Minnesota citizens’ votes. Verify the Vote, it is NOT too much to ask!!!!”
It Never Happens
“The left told us this never happens and it’s a myth,” Dhillon said. “It definitely happened.”
In fact, on April 13, 39-year-old Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari, a non-citizen living in Minnesota, was reportedly charged via summons with perjury and a voting violation, FOX9 KMSP in Eden Prairie, MN, reported.
Chaudhari initially denied voting in 2024 during an interview, but he later admitted to investigators that he did, saying he “made a mistake" and confirming he was not a US citizen, FOX9 relayed.
The Office of Secretary of State Steve Simon reportedly told FOX News Digital last week: "Only US Citizens are eligible to vote in Minnesota," adding that ineligible voting is "extremely rare."
Bill Gahn, policy fellow with Center of the American Experiment, posted the FOX9 report on X announcing: “That thing that never ever happens happened again.”
“I’ve sent a document request to them on that,” Dhillon told Bartiromo on Sunday. “Minnesota has a weird vouching law that allows citizens to vouch for each other’s citizenship. That’s crazy and inconsistent with the Help America Vote Act [2002].”
Federal judges in five states — California, Oregon, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island — have ruled against the Justice Department’s lawsuits seeking unredacted statewide voter registration rolls. Three of the judges were appointed by Democratic presidents, and two were appointed by President Donald Trump.
“It’s such a basic voting hygiene concept in the 9th Circuit, in the 6th Circuit, in Michigan and recently, Rhode Island last week,” Dhillon said. “We’re expediting the appeals in these cases. There'll be an appeal in the 9th circuit and in the 6th circuit.”
Saving the Voter Rolls
Dhillon’s finds have energized the arguments from Republicans for the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act.
US Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) responded on Facebook to the news of Chaudhari’s charges, calling on senators to support the legislation: “The Senate must pass the SAVE America Act to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote and voter ID when casting a ballot.”
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), who sponsored the SAVE America Act, also responded to Dhillon’s interview on X: “Why are 29 states & D.C. stonewalling federal officials trying to ensure that your vote isn’t nullified by noncitizens & dead people?”
Conservative activist Scott Presler announced on Saturday on FOX News and X that he is giving Senate Majority Leader John Thune until the end of April to pass the SAVE America Act before he actively works to defeat Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and John Cornyn (R-TX), who are facing primary challengers in the November midterm election.
