The self-described party of inclusion and tolerance has once again allowed its loathing of President Donald Trump to affect its policy-making decisions as California Democrats vote to grant full health care benefits to tens of thousands of illegal aliens.
As rates of homelessness in the state rise to untenable numbers, contributing to an outbreak of medieval diseases, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats in the state legislature want to make illegal immigrants eligible for California’s Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal.
The decision will allow about 90,000 low-income non-citizen adults between the ages of 19 and 25 to enroll for complete coverage – with a price tag of $98 million per year. The deal was embedded in a broader $213 billion proposed budget.
And guess who’s footing the bill? California’s citizen taxpayers, even if they can’t afford health insurance. Gee, does any Democrat have a better solution than an individual-mandate penalty that former President Barack Obama plunged down unsuspecting Americans’ throats? Republicans in Congress eliminated that law as part of the 2017 overhaul to the tax code, but, hey, Dems hate Trump so much, the fatally flawed program appears to be ready for resuscitation.
You’d think most Americans would revolt.
The Golden State’s Priorities Are All Messed Up
The Golden State already extends Medi-Cal to illegals under the age of 19 who qualify for Deferred Action Childhood Arrival (DACA) status. And, you gotta love this, if DACA status is revoked, recipients may still stay on Medi-Cal. But the homeless population of California, 130,000 plus at last count, remains unsheltered, mentally and physically ill, and carrying diseases that the Western world eradicated by clean running water and vaccinations. Among that total are 10,836 veterans who proudly served this country and now sleep on rat-infested and urine-soaked streets.
Yet California is spending state and federal resources to give full health care benefits to illegal aliens.
Liberty Nation has been following the decline of the once-glorious state, reporting that the Democrat- led government is in constant “chaos” and overrun with “approximately 12% of the nation’s total population, but 25% of the homeless – 20% of the state’s population. They spend almost as much for prisons as higher education.”
Anthony Wright, executive director of advocacy group Health Access, seemingly was disappointed the state wasn’t handing out solid-gold shekels to illegals and working poor: “While it’s not all we sought, it will provide a real tangible difference for people.” Not for our people but for some other country’s people.
Priorities are clear: Illegals come before any U.S. citizen in the state of California.
How Long Will the Freeloading Locomotive Pound the Rails?
San Francisco has instituted this nation’s first-ever poop patrol, adding $750,000 to the city’s now more than $11 billion budget. Los Angeles County has nearly 60,000 homeless folks, and some of its streets are littered with used needles, other drug paraphernalia, and human feces. Military-style precision cleanups occur daily by workers wearing hazmat suits. So, what does Newsom do to stem the hemorrhaging financial burdens? Yep, provide health care using state and federal dollars for non-citizens while leaving the borders wide open.
Perhaps the state should focus on taking care of its own people instead of wringing hands while watching its middle class pack up and move to Texas. But, then again, snubbing California’s collective nose at President Trump is so much more important in the grand scheme of things.
