Former President Donald Trump turned himself in at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, just after 7:30 p.m. He was indicted August 14 on 13 counts, including violating the state’s anti-racketeering act, soliciting a public officer to violate their oath, conspiring to impersonate a public officer, conspiring to commit forgery in the first degree, and conspiring to file false documents. Trump and his 18 fellow co-defendants were given until noon Friday to surrender at the jail.
Trump Is a Defendant Like Any Other … Only Not
Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat had said earlier in the month that Trump would be treated like any other defendant – but, of course, that wasn’t quite possible, given his status as a former president who still has round the clock Secret Service protection. Security was tightened at the facility ahead of the former president’s arrival by motorcade.
Despite the large crowds of supporters, detractors, and the media present to record it all – and despite the greatly increased security and Secret Service motorcade – Trump and his co-defendants were treated, in some ways, like any others. The former president underwent the booking process. Unlike the three previous indictments, this time, Mr. Trump was fingerprinted, assigned an inmate number – P01135809 – and a mugshot was made. He was then released per the bond agreement that was made before the arrest, which includes not using social media to target co-defendants and witnesses in the case.
