As the lower 48 turned from a frozen winter wonderland to what resembles a Texas Rednecks With Paychecks mudding event, that pervasive Trump Derangement Syndrome – much like COVID-19 – is in the throes of a powerful and disturbing second wave. Cancel culture, having taken the last few days off, reemerged with a new target. A recent poll found that leftists are renting space in their heads to Trump, and Biden is taking kids out of cages and putting them in containers. You cannot make this stuff up.
This season may end up being remembered – by red states and flyover folks – as the winter of their discontent.
Pale Face Soon to Be Rolling Off the Line
Jeep is still reeling from the poor decision of hiring a DWI-possessing rock-star as the spokesman for a moving vehicle, and they’re back in the news as the latest victim of a drive-by barrage of cancel culture. First seen on the road in 1974, the Jeep Cherokee is under fire. The principal chief of the Cherokee tribe, Chuck Hoskin, Jr., says it does not honor their heritage:
“The best way to honor us is to learn about our sovereign government, our role in this country, our history, culture, and language and have meaningful dialogue with federally recognized tribes on cultural appropriateness.”
Jeep says, “does too.” No one seemed to care about any of this until Car and Driver magazine brought the subject to the chief, and now everyone’s knickers are in a wad. Red staters find this ridiculousness a colossal waste of time.
Charles Keller in Lafayette, LA, stood up for Jeep: “I nominate my ancestral tribe, the Choctaw Cherokee – A top-rated vehicle, strong and popular. I would be proud.”
Chuck Radon, thawing out in White Bear Lake, MN, weighed in as well: “They should be thrilled … the word Cherokee is derived from a Creek (Muscogee) word meaning people from a different speech, so if the vehicle is available to people that speak different languages doesn’t it make sense that Jeep is not using the name of the vehicle in a derogatory manner?”
Uh, Chuck, leftists aren’t fans of logic. Jeep hasn’t participated much in the bruhaha, perhaps still stunned by the direct hit from that DWI grenade. But maybe they will comply and move forward with a slur that liberals may embrace: The Dog Faced Pony Soldier. It has a ring to it.
Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)
A recent survey conducted by Echelon Insights is one hell of an eye-opener. Out of 1005 registered Democratic voters, 82% said Trump’s supporters were the chief concern. Not COVID-19. Not Iran or North Korea. Not even Donald J. Trump – his supporters.
The man is out of office currently, and whether he plans to become a MAGA kingmaker or run again, the left seems to be focusing their energies on a past administration. Looking backward may have liberals running into border walls if they stop paying attention to the electorate.
The Republican respondents of the same survey were concerned about issues: immigration, support for law enforcement, media bias, and higher taxes. In general, the moral and economic decline of the United States.
David Elkins of Clyde, TX, agreed that the left should be afraid, very afraid, as “we’re just about fed up with his bull—-.”
Joe Drozd in Valparaiso, IN – home of Orville Redenbacher – feels stuck like Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day: “Seriously? Last five years, get DJT. Next four years, get DJT. Priorities.”
Circling Back
White House press secretary Jen Psaki might want to stop answering questions and return to “circling back” with better, tighter answers. Asked recently about unaccompanied minors being locked up by the Biden administration, Psaki wandered off the path with a befuddling answer to a simple question. It was the Obama administration that first built cages for immigrant children. The Trump administration separated children from adults. Now Biden is sticking these children in tiny shipping containers. And that is so much better.
As Jen says, “the capacity at existing Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters has been significantly reduced because, of course, you can’t have a child in every bed. There needs to be spacing, and we abide by the spacing to protect the kids who are living in those facilities for a short period of time.” Hence said crates.
Texans aren’t fooled. Hank Heyns of Austin was blunt: “So, in other words, Biden is locking kids up in Obama’s and Joe’s new Cages but in a caring way.” Red staters see right through the nonsense.
