Louisiana’s Democrat Governor Restricts Abortions to 15 Weeks

It’s not every day that Democrats do anything remotely decent. Generally, they baselessly attack the National Rifle Association or throw more money at a collapsing government program. Abortion is the most common issue that conservatives push back on because they care about the beating heart of the unborn. That’s what makes it so shocking that Louisiana’s Democrat governor, John Bel Edwards, signed a law May 30 that prohibits abortions after 15-weeks.

John Bel Edwards

Let’s make it clear that all abortion is heinous. Roe v. Wade was a partisan ruling. The right to not have a child does not outweigh the right to life.

The normally left-wing Louisiana governor surprisingly restricted the chance to have an abortion. Of course, the pro-abortionists are highly agitated. How dare their Democrat governor betray them? In a primarily Republican state, Edwards had strong support.

Senator John Milkovich, who is also a Democrat, authored the bill. Seeing two left-wingers make a push on a bill that restricts abortion provokes thought.

The new legislation pulls back abortion opportunities, but there is one problem. Abortion is still legal. Dr. Wayne Gravious is a family doctor in the state. He testified during the hearing for the bill that “They yawn, smile, grimace (at 15 weeks). It’s a baby.” Those are all good reasons for abortion to not exist at even 15 weeks. Those are actions that all living people do. It is intellectually dishonest to say that a “clump of cells” that shows signs of pain or breathes is not a live person.

Let’s not forget that an unborn child’s heartbeat is detected at six weeks, and the heart begins to form and pump at four weeks. Before the heart is created, the brain, spinal cord, and neural tubes have developed. Senator Milkovich admitted that it was “torturous” for babies to go through an abortion.  Whether he realized it or not, he began to wreck some of the pro-choice arguments.

People on the left rarely make admissions like Milkovich. They refuse to acknowledge the baby as a person, but rather as a “fetus,” or even “parasite.” There is this sick attempt to downplay human life for the sake of votes.

The right to life for the unborn should be the one thing that brings Democrats and Republicans together.

All of the politicians who voted in favor of the bill are facing expected opposition. A local group named Lift Louisiana is launching a social media campaign. Leftist groups will challenge this law. However, applause should go to those who voted for this bill.

The ACLU has sued Iowa over a law saying abortion is illegal once a heartbeat is detected. More states should follow Iowa.

There is no way of knowing how many lives will be saved now. It is an immeasurable metric, but this bill is a good move in the right direction.

Maybe there are some Democrats left that are somewhat morally honest.
