Kamala Harris Learns That History is Hard

Democrats have a proud tradition of rewriting history on the fly, and V.P. candidate Harris does not disappoint.

Our winsome woman of color and vice-presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket boldly declared during the veep debate that President Abraham Lincoln said sitting a Supreme Court Justice 27 days out from a presidential election was damn near sacrilege. Or in Sen. Kamala Harris’ own words: “In 1864… Abraham Lincoln was up for reelection. And it was 27 days before the election. And a seat became open on the United States Supreme Court. Abraham Lincoln’s party was in charge not only of the White House but the Senate. But Honest Abe said, ‘It’s not the right thing to do.'”

Harris’ Rocky Relationship With the Facts

When scouring unvetted sources to make a point about American political history, it may be best to seek actual historians’ expertise lest we accidentally make up a fib and broadcast it to the nation to dissect.

Within minutes, the California senator’s claim was indeed dissected and disseminated. Harris took a crumb of information and created a loaf of bread in this case. Yes, it was an election year. Yes, a vacancy on the Supreme Court became open. But no, Honest Abe did not pontificate that it was wrong to fill the vacancy, just rather untimely since Congress was out of session until December. And thus, according to Lincoln historian Michael Burlingame: “there would have been no point in naming a man before the election anyway. Lincoln shrewdly used that to his advantage. If he had lost the election, there is no evidence he wouldn’t have filled the spot in the lame-duck session.”

Harris et al. Following DNC Orders

Sen. Harris making up alternative universe facts is nothing new: She has a public history of such behavior. To whit, stretching the facts of the busing debacle in California: “I was that little girl,” she plaintively spoke about her experience in busing into a white school. But schools were nearly 50% desegregated when little Kamala hopped on the big yellow school bus. And now she is the running mate to a guy she called racist – excusing her about-face with the flippant claim that “it was a debate.”

And how can we forget her honest admission to smoking weed in college and listening to rap music? Stay tuned for more on inhaling and being stoned. But Harris is just another candidate following the Democratic playbook, Chapter One: Revisionist History.

Top-down, the Democratic National Committee wants their documented slavery, Jim Crow, and Civil War connections erased. On the DNC website, they remind us of their history: “For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, workers’ rights, and women’s rights.” Categorically untrue in all manner of reality.

What happened to the Civil War? Oh, well, the Democrats were fighting for slavery. The Republican Party platform in 1864 proudly stated: “Slavery is hostile to the principles of Republican Government. Justice and the National safety demand its utter and complete extirpation from the soil of the Republic.”

Let’s remember that the Republican Party was founded on the radical idea that all men are created equal, and that slavery should be abolished in the land of the free.

On the DNC website, the party’s history magically begins in 1920 – with Woodrow Wilson and the 19th amendment. What did they fight for 100 years prior?  Not civil rights, women’s rights, or health care. For that matter, what the heck did they fight for in the 1960s? It was Democrats attempting to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1964 while 80 percent of Republicans voted in favor, and less than 70 percent of Democrats supported equal rights for black Americans.

Fact Checkers Are Busy – Media Does Not Care

Ms. Harris is not the only Democrat with a slipping grasp on historical reality. The outspoken toothy lass from Queens, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) throws out untruths with regularity. Not long ago, she claimed that Republicans kept Franklin Delano Roosevelt from a fifth term by passing the 22nd Amendment – limiting the U.S. president to two terms. The 22nd Amendment was passed in 1947 – when FDR had been in his tomb for two years already and seemingly unable to seek a fifth term.

The gaffing-great Joe Biden says all sorts of wild things – but he also makes things up on a whim. He recently claimed that his ancestors were tuning into FDR’s Fireside Chats in 1929, but Roosevelt was not president until 1933.

Two Of A Kind

Painting a false historical picture for gullible voters is a skill set encouraged and practiced by the Democratic Party and their minions. And now, America is witnessing two of the party’s greatest revisionists of all times – together – trying to convince the electorate to vote them into the Executive Branch.

[perfectpullquote align=”right” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Ms. Harris is not the only Democrat with a slipping grasp on historical reality[/perfectpullquote]As mentioned earlier, Ms. Harris has failed at rewriting her own history, let alone that of her beloved party. I’m reminded of her interview earlier in the primary season, where she admitted to smoking pot.

“I have. And I inhaled. I did inhale. It was a joint.” Her interviewer, Charlamagne tha God bluntly asked: “What was you listening to when you was high? What was on? What song was on?”

The grinning Harris replied: “Definitely Snoop, Tupac for sure.”

She may have smoked pot. She may have inhaled. But Snoop and Tupac hadn’t put out any music when Harris was in college – instead, they burst onto the scene years after she was already a working professional. Perhaps she never did exhale.
