The long-awaited Mueller report – in all its redacted glory – is expected to be released today. The day’s festivities will begin at 9:30 Eastern, when Attorney General William Barr and his deputy, Rod Rosenstein, hold a press conference ahead of Congress receiving their copy. Both Republicans and Democrats are busily plotting the spin and “interpretation” that they will sell to the American public with as much sincerity as they can collectively muster. Has the default position of modern politics become propaganda, or is it a case of monkey-see, monkey-do?
Before the end of the day, battle lines will be drawn and paths to the presidency will be discussed – but the one aspect that will be sadly ignored is the truth. It is anticipated that many Americans won’t read the report and will instead rely on tainted news organizations to present snappy summaries in easy to repeat soundbites. This is primarily because the American public is perhaps one of the hardest working populaces on earth. Between shuttling little Jimmy off to pre-school, getting to work on time, and grocery shopping for dinner, most people don’t have the time to read 300 pages of minutia. That’s where the news media steps in and this, my friends, can mean trouble – and not just in River City – to coin a very American phase. So, forewarned is forearmed.
