Barr and Rosenstein Set the Stage – Battle Lines Drawn

Let's get ready to rumble!

Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein have set the stage for the release of the Mueller Report. In a press conference that has set tongues wagging across the globe, Barr announced that volume one of the special counsel report did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government to interfere with the election.

The Bottom Line

He also outlined the disinformation campaign that the Russian government carried out to sow discord, making it very clear that not one American citizen was involved. Time and time again, Barr stressed that no collusion or conspiracy took place involving Trump or his campaign.

One of the more interesting points made was that the report states that it was certainly the Russian government that hacked the DNC emails and later passed them on to WikiLeaks.

Obstruction

Barr stated that, regarding obstruction, ten incidents were outlined regarding Donald Trump’s alleged efforts. He adds that based on the special counsel’s legal framework, both he and Rosenstein failed to find a reason to charge obstruction.

According to the report, the White House provided full and unfettered access to the investigation, sought no privilege, and, in fact, openly encouraged staff to be as cooperative as possible.

Redactions

The full (redacted) report will be handed to Congress between 11 a.m. and noon EST and is likely to be released publicly soon after. Barr has already released a summary, in which he said that the special counsel “did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”

Early reports had already indicated that very few redactions would be made of the segments dealing with obstruction; this hasn’t stopped the media and Democrats giving voice to the idea that the AG is running cover for the president. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) even went so far as to accuse Barr of being “a lackey and a sycophant for the president of the United States of America.” Presumably with the plan to sow seeds of doubt in the minds of the voting public.

An Empty Cupboard

The sad reality is that this report, whether it contains meat or not, is all that can keep the media machine fed. According to a summary provided by Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, since September last year, the number of stories the legacy media ran on the Mueller investigation averaged 13 per day:

Washington Post: 1,184

The New York Times: 1,156

CNN: 1,965

MSNBC: 4,202

As he points out, all this “about an investigation with no evidence, no grounding in the truth, and no crime.”

All that remains for the press pundits afraid to cover actual news – or too entrenched in their ideology to change focus – is to keep digging a hole that will end only when President Trump is voted out, or otherwise removed from office.
