Illegal Immigration is more than just a political talking point; the left seems determined to make us an open-border country no matter the cost. Each week, Liberty Nation recognizes the Americans who must pay it.
Week of March 22-28
This has been a deadly week. Sadly, we report the death of a Washington state sheriff’s deputy and a young mother, both at the hands of illegal immigrants. Although not detailed in this column, this week also saw the return of a convicted child rapist just nine days after being deported, and two illegal immigrants caught with 81 pounds of cocaine in North Carolina.
Deputy Shot and Killed by Illegal Immigrant
Kittitas County, WA
An illegal immigrant in the U.S. on an expired work visa shot and killed a 42-year-old Washington state sheriff’s deputy and injured another officer during a traffic stop. The police attempted to stop Juan Manuel Flores Del Toro, 29, after receiving complaints that he was driving with “road rage.” Investigators said the suspect opened fire, fatally shooting Ryan Thompson and wounding Benito Chavez, 22, of the Kittitas Police. Officers returned fire and Flores Del Toro was pronounced dead a short time later at Kittitas Valley Hospital.
According to Ellensburg Police Captain Dan Hansberry, the suspect did not have any warrants and did not know why he chose to flee the authorities.
ICE spokeswoman Tanya Roman said the suspect was a Mexican citizen who entered the U.S. at Laredo, Texas in April 2014. He had a temporary agricultural worker visa, but Roman said ICE did not have any record of him extending his visa or leaving the states.
Thompson was the first law enforcement officer to be shot and killed in the county since 1927. He was married with three children.
Migrant Shoots, Kills Young Mother
Canadian County, OK
A young mother was murdered by an illegal migrant with apparently no motive. Mexican citizen Ramon Hector Martine Ontiveros, 33, allegedly admitted to shooting 28-year-old Paige Gomer, a mother of one. It is unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
“I sent people his mugshot and no one knows who he was,” said Gomer’s best friend, Sosha Christmas, about the suspect. “I just hope he never gets out. I hope he never gets to see freedom again. I don’t know who he is, but I hope he gets what he deserves.”
Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said, “We are actively involved in this investigation where an American citizen died in the hands of an illegal alien in Canadian County.”
Authorities apprehended Ontiveros after he fled the scene. While in transport to the county jail, officers said Ontiveros “made admissions he was responsible for firing a weapon which resulted in Gomer’s fatal gunshot wound.”
