Ukrainian Demands
At the very heart of the impeachment inquiry is the notion that President Donald Trump withheld aid from the Ukrainian government for his own personal benefit. Advocates of the president insist that aid was held up only to ensure that corruption was being dealt with and that the U.S. taxpayers’ money wouldn’t be wasted.
This week, MPs in the Ukraine parliament expressed dismay at the amount of corruption taking place and the wealth being robbed from the people of their country. Specifically, Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Dubinsky talked of over seven billion dollars being stolen and laundered … some by Burisma Holdings, the company which Hunter Biden so recently left.
As Liberty Nation’s Leesa K. Donner wrote:
At the press conference held yesterday, Ukrainian MPs suggested that considering this latest news, their president should place a 911 call to U.S. President Donald Trump to help launch an international investigation. They are seeking to “obtain information about the organizers of the bond issue, clients and beneficiaries of investment funds for each purchase, interrogate fund officials, etc.”
Not only this, but U.S. corporations with close ties to the DNC are also being called into question. For those among you of a more conspiratorial bent, this may be beginning to look less like a case of nepotism for a favored son and more like a large scale plot by one of the two major American political parties to get their undue cut of a very suspicious pie.
What to Watch For
Under no circumstances will this appear front and center in the U.S. media. The implications alone would be far more damaging to the Democratic Party than any charges they can lay on Donald Trump. The only question remaining is whether House Republicans are brave enough to take this particular bull by the horns.
Testimony Over?
The testimonies are done, witnesses have been questioned, and now all that remains is how on earth House Democrats can construct a case that will not take longer than five minutes for the Senate to resolve, but also, how best to spin this to the American people.
Impeachment ratings have plummeted, with just about half of all Americans viewing these hearings as a farce. Keeping the public onside and worried that their president may have committed a crime is essential to the Democrat 2020 strategy, yet it appears they have a narrative problem.
Just a few short months ago, these same politicians were accusing Trump of being a Russian asset. As Liberty Nation’s Graham J. Noble so well put it:
“As recently as August, though, the story was that Trump held back the aid – distributed as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative – in order to appease and assist his Russian overlords. Back then, Democrats who lamented the hold did not even mention Ukraine. Until an anti-Trump, intelligence community nobody decided to complain about a phone call to which he or she was not privy, it was unlikely that any of those Democrats could have pointed to Ukraine on a map.
‘Trump is once again showing himself to be an asset to Russia,’ whined Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. ‘President Trump should stop worrying about disappointing Vladimir Putin and stand up for U.S. national security priorities,’ said Bob Menendez (D-NJ).”
Either Trump did it to benefit himself, or he did it at the behest of Putin. Only one of these things can be true (and likely neither). Until Democrats can come up with a narrative that does not contradict their statements for the last three years, they may have a hard time selling this.
What to Watch For
Expect deliberations to last as long as humanly possible. Once House Democrats vote to send this to the Senate, their powder is all but spent. There may even be demands from the Senate that before they begin a trial, they must hear directly from the whistleblower – the one Adam Schiff denies even knowing. If Schiff is found to be lying, the remaining credibility of Democrats will be shot. Perhaps they won’t even try to get this to the Senate?

- Pete Buttigieg will be getting all the press this week. He has less political baggage than other candidates and is – at least in this particular field – a moderate. Could Mayor Pete merely be a useful tool for other candidates attempting to bolster their war chest?
