George Soros: Philanthropist or Globalist Oppressor?

by | Jul 10, 2018 | Narrated News, Politics

Open Society Foundations (OSF) is hosting a discussion called “Is the Human Rights Movement in crisis?” on July 11. On the surface it seems like a somewhat libertarian philanthropic organization. Its mission statement gives the impression of a serious humanistic endeavor promoting Western values across the world:

“We seek to strengthen the rule of law; respect for human rights, minorities, and a diversity of opinions; democratically elected governments; and a civil society that helps keep government power in check.”

Sounds wonderful. But is it true?

Radical leftism

It turns out that OSF is funding a suspiciously large amount of radical leftist groups. Shortly after the election of President Donald Trump in 2016, they announced that they had donated $10 million to combat hate. In their own words:

“Harsh rhetoric and policy proposals during the 2016 presidential campaign that drew on racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, anti-LGBTI, and other forms of hate have encouraged a wave of physical and verbal attacks nationwide.”

They said that they donated in response to “the threat of forcible removal of undocumented immigrants.” Yes, you read that right. The organization who claims to “strengthen the rule of law” declared that enforcing the law is hate, and that illegal aliens are merely “undocumented.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center

They also cite the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as an authority on identifying hate. SPLC lists ex-Muslims Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Maajid Nawaz as promoters of hate, but not the radical leftist terrorist group Antifa.

The reason? “Violence […] is not among the criteria for listing” and “Antifa groups do not promote hatred based on race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity.”

By their definition attacking a peaceful conservative with a bike lock is not an act of hate, but peacefully promoting Christian values is.

George Soros

Where does OSF get all its money? Hungarian born George Soros, one of the richest people on the planet, has donated a whopping $18 billion to the organization. It is, in practice, a front end for his global political ambitions.

America is not the only country where Soros undermines the rule of law. In his native Hungary, the government passed a “Stop Soros” bill, to combat Soros-funded NGOs that aid illegal migrants.

Conspiracy theories?

Many people leaning right have had Soros on their shortlist of global super-villains for years. Often such criticism is dismissed as a conspiracy theory and “demonization of philanthropy.” The reason is that Soros doesn’t only spend money on neo-Marxist causes and the groups that are targeted for promoting hate aren’t all conservative.

Precisely because of such leftsplaining, this article is filled with references to statements and actions by these groups that shows in their own words that they are promoting radical leftism.

Soros is not a philanthropist. You cannot be a lover of humanity if you think large portions of it are a basket of deplorables.

He cloaks his activism and radical vision under the guise of philanthropy. It is both dishonest and detrimental to the reputation of the field.
