Election Results – All the Facts, None of the Spin

Mississippi

Gubernatorial Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Democratic state Attorney General Jim Hood battled it out to replace term-limited Governor Phil Bryant. With 52.3% of the vote, Tate secured victory as over 99% of the vote was counted. Result: Republican Hold Lieutenant Governor Republican Delbert Hosemann won the race to replace now-Governor-elect Tate Reeves as LG, winning 60.3% of the vote against Democrat Jay Hughes. Result: Republican Hold

Attorney General

Republican Lynn Fitch beat out Jennifer Riley Collins by over 16 points to secure the position presently held by Democrat Jim Hood who failed to win the governorship. Result: Republican Gain State Senate After the 2015 election, the State Senate's 52 seats comprised 33 Republicans and 19 Democrats. Yesterday's results now show 36 Republicans and 16 Democrats. Result: Republican Hold State House In 2015, the House's 122 seats were made up pf 72 GOP, 46 Dem, and four vacant. This election (not all results in yet) shows 76 GOP, 43 Dem, and one Independent. Result: Republican Hold

Kentucky

Gubernatorial Democrat Andy Beshear and incumbent Republican Matt Bevin faced a tight gubernatorial race, the latest figures suggest that Beshear has won with 49.2% against Bevin’s 48.8%, but Bevin has yet to concede. The Republican is asking for a recount citing “irregularities,” meaning the final declaration may not happen for some time. Result: Unknown (Likely Democrat Gain) Attorney General Daniel Cameron won the Attorney General spot for the Republican Party with a more than 15% lead over Democrat rival Gregory Stumbo. The AG spot is presently held by gubernatorial hopeful Andy Beshear. Result: Republican Gain State House Special Elections Two seats in the House were up for grabs, both were won by Republicans Samara Heavrin (60%) and Kim Banta (63%). Results: 2 X Republican Holds

Virginia

 State Senate The Republican Party lost control of the State Senate. The 40 seats were previously comprised of 21 Republicans and 19 Democrats. This now stands as 21 Democrats and 18 Republicans with the GOP leading in one unannounced race. Result: Democrat Gain State House of Delegates In 2017, the 100 seat House was controlled by Republicans with 51 seats; this changed with yesterday's elections to Democrat control with 52 seats and several results still outstanding.
