Variously described as both a caravan and an army, the ever-growing trail of Honduran migrants moves closer and closer to the largely unprotected southern U.S. border. With tales of poverty and heartbreak emanating from a media that almost seems to be revelling in the approaching crisis, the one story that has yet to be told is exactly why the rag-tag band has chosen the United States as its final destination.
What began as 2,000 Hondurans fleeing violence is now estimated to be 7,000 people fleeing poverty. Despite President Trump’s threats of pulling USAID from countries that fail to control their own borders on this annual “pilgrimage,” it appears Mexico has no intention of stopping the winding snake of migrants.
Surely, if these thousands of unfortunate souls are destined to be an economic and cultural boon to the U.S., as the political left would have us believe, why would Mexico not be desperate to keep them safe within its national bosom?
The President’s Response
In a recent tweet, the president intimated that he would be treating the migrant caravan as a national emergency:
“Sadly, it looks like Mexico’s Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergy. Must change laws!”
But what does this mean in practice?
It is unfortunate that, in reality, almost every individual in the caravan might eventually be permitted into the United States. They will apply for either asylum or refugee status, be processed, and released within U.S. borders with little more than an order to appear before a judge … which many will ignore.
The military and border patrol will only be able to assist with the processing of applications; they will not be able to create a physical barrier to prevent people entering the country. And this is the final piece of the puzzle in Trump’s MAGA platform. Without a physical barrier (enforced by strict immigration laws), there is only so much that can be done to put America back on the path to prosperity.
The Future Victims
President Trump has achieved amazing things since his election. The economy is booming, unemployment is down, people get to keep more of their own money, and jobs are going through the roof … but this is a balancing act. A society rises together or falls together, and if, once this delicate dance is in play there falls an unanticipated extra weight, the whole thing can topple.
Cities and towns that are on the mend, getting their finances in order and their people into work, will be expected to take their “fair share” of newly arrived immigrants. And this costs money. Almost every credible study worldwide has shown that mass, uncontrolled immigration negatively impacts economies, and the hardest hit are always the poorest in low-skilled positions.

This is why the political left are determined to not only bring this latest wave of migrants in, but also to welcome as many as possible in the future. If the working classes are beaten down by mass-immigration until they sit once again on the bottom rung of the ladder, a life of welfare is their only option. And we all know which party is the “champion of the welfare state.”
It is time to be brutally honest about what is happening. The calls for more immigration and an open border policy are nothing more than a grab for power, wrapped in a shining cloak of false virtue. Only when the America worker has no more hope, and is intrinsically, inescapably tied to the Democratic Party, will the left stop their calls for more and more migrants.
